When I was a kid I got my hands on a British bike magazine. It it was a detailed description of a Norton ES2 restoration. I remember it talked about brazing shut many small holes in the oil tank. From that point on I was hooked. My buddies all wanted Harley motorcycles but all I ever wanted was a Norton. (I have owned three Norton motorcycles and actually worked as a Norton mechanic at a dealership.)

Thank you for great Upload. I was the proud owner of an ES2 in 1964, swapped for a VW Beatle convertable after a traffic-light stop in Germany, the Guy was mad about it.

What a wonderful sound from the past, lovely to know we are hearing an familiar everyday sound of years gone by. It reminds me so much of the 1951 Royal Enfield 250cc model S, l once owned and restored as a teenager. Thank you for your video!

I saw an ES2 as a kid - it's not the speed that made it special it is the relaxed manner it gets there - After many bikes, I now run an SRX600 which has a mellow engine for the same reason

Mine was a 1938 model. My first bike that I bought in 3 baskets for $100. in 1960. I put it together with the help of a library book called" Modern Motorcycle Mechanics". Rode it for a year and sold it at a profit enough to buy a Sunbeam S7 and on and on. I never had lights on a series of 6 British bikes until I bought a Honda 350 XL in parts.

Half the comments are about the fuel tap, can't we all just appreciate this lovely old bike? In this beautiful condition, and with such a nice sound, there's a lot more to watch and hear in this video than a leaking fuel tap, I'm sure he'll fix that!
@Coltnz15 жыл бұрын

wow. My ideal bike. Always wanted one. One cylinder is enough. Sounds good mate.
@tryarunm6 жыл бұрын
"One cylinder is enough" for what, to save petrol? Ride a twin or triple or four, you will never even look at a single again.
@beb58166 жыл бұрын
Easier maintenance (keep it simple) and the sound. Have owned a single, 2 twins, 2 v twins, a triple and have ridden a four. My bikes are for use not pose or power. Whatever your bike, enjoy !
@tryarunm6 жыл бұрын
Nice. Would you mind my asking which single you owned?
@beb58166 жыл бұрын
The single was a Ducati 250. Great little bike, effortless power but 3 inch tires. Back wheel locked up on braking. Hit two cars and a truck so sold it. Now have 2 V twins, a HRD and a Ducati. Have determined that 750cc is the minimum for a road bike.
@beb58166 жыл бұрын
G'day again. Single was a 250 Ducati approx 68 model. Great little bike with a marvelous exhaust note but lightweight with 3 inch tyres. So, brakes locked up in emergencies. Hit 2 cars and a truck so sold it ! Determined then that the minimum size bike would be at least 750 for weight and power to avoid problem drivers. Unfortunately, met a few others at high speed on my Ducati 900cc Darmah. Have rebuilt it 3 times and is now in perfect nick but unregistered. What about your bikes ? Any good stories ?
