How deep a hole can I dig? Simply fixing the engine would be far too easy.

A good informative video also proves a point of what a man in a shed can create. You don't need big fancy engineering companies all you need is a shed the good old damp British summer weather and knowledge oh and a brew .... you'll get there with it keep up the good work 👍

Where would the country be without men in sheds?

That's some impressive shed work. I've got to get me one of those fancy lathe spinny things. Cheers

Great video of the joy of old motorcycles. These things are sent to try us ! There's always some damn thing that brings the job to a halt with any rebuild . But The Man in The Shed will prevail by means of skill , determination and the judicious application of a big hammer . The tent is a good addition to the workspace , highly approved . The top ring was probably broken when previous owner fitted the barrel , I'm surprised it didn't score the sh*t out of the bore . Interesting SU carb conversion , I bet she'll do 150mpg now . [ I wonder if I could fit one on the Guzzi ? ] Good luck in the search for rings . Onward and upward !

The tent is brilliant. I've had it ages and done nothing with it. Wish I put it up yonks ago. I too am intrigued as to how well the su works.

To fit those guides, put the head in the oven and heat it up to 100deg put the guides into the freezer, then fit them. Just as an aside most auto machinists wuld have turned them using a mandrel to ensure concentricity to get correct valve facing. You could also put a teper on the port side to help air flow and ease insersion.

That's sort of the plan. To remove the old guides I had the thing at gas mark 7 (220 c) for an hour and a half and they still wouldn't budge. Thank you for watching.

Hiya there, I'm enjoying your videos on the Norton. At one time, many years ago, all towns would have engineering companies to do what you are doing now. As a motor vehicle apprentice in the 70's replacing a head gasket would also include removing and lapping in valves, mici- ng velve stem and guides...checking for head warp with an engineers straight edge, piston or liner protrusion and top and tail piston in the workshop lathe. People go on about the good old days when things were simpler on cars but quality of oils and engine component is far superior now. This complicates matters as I yearn for older bikes but with todays quality. All my older bikes have electronic ignition and 12v charging with led lights etc. Modern EVB brake linings and Carol Nash breakdown cover.

A lot of modern designs would not be possible without fancy oils and management systems. Brilliant engineering in both. It's impressive how long some of the old engines ran, lubricated by black sludge and running on a worn out carb.

Thank you. I'm sure I will be told it is manufacturing tolerance and to ream the guides to suit.

If u can live with the piston just a set of +20 rings and file the gap...
