I attended DD Johnson Elementary School in 1953-1955 (4th, 5th, & 6th garden) & graduated from Excelsior High in 1961. Lots of good memories.

My husband and I took a private tour just before the owner moved out next day. She showed us all around. Was a special moment because we were raised in the area neighborhood. Our neighbor took us over to see her in his old model T car, he was a teacher in the area and knew her well. Will not forget that.

What an awesome experience! 😃👍 My best friend in kindergarten lived on Orr & Day Rd. We lived on the Downey side, she lived on the Norwalk side by the railroad tracks. Memories...😌

City should've preserved the Norwalk movie theater and drive in.

Yes. They used to show old movies. Saw a Charlie Chaplin double feature there in the seventies. Great old building.

I lived on Wheatstone Ave. I use to walk by that house every day going to Centennial Jr. High. This was late 60's to early 70's. There was an avocado grove around the house. This house was our Haunted House, very scary to us at the time. Especially during Halloween

Hi there, I have no idea if you'll see this--my mom had a horse on a ranch in around Norwalk/Downey, and I'm trying to get a clearer sense of where it might be for a book I'm writing. Plus just a sense of what it was like back then--much less built up I imagine. My mom remembers open space, working and abandoned dairies, etc. Please feel free to reach out if you do catch this (or anyone else who knows a bit about the time/area). Thank you!

I went to DD Johnston Kindergarten and 1st grade. 1979-1980. 1980-1981. I didn't know this house was related to the elementary school.

When I was in junior high we'd steal apples from the orchard and Mr. Hargitt would chase us in is old truck. We never knew who he was until the house became a museum.
