Not sure where that "Shocked China" coming from. Nothing about construction projects would shock China nowadays, as it leads the world on these things. But these projects are very impressive nonetheless. I'm concerned over the "underwater" highway with cruise ships above though. If any cruise ship accidentally hit the anchor floating on water, isn't that a crazy disaster? Those anchors look more vulnerable and harder to see (thus more prone to accident) than bridge piers. What about waves moving the tunnel? Looks to be a bit concerning, but I'm sure the engineers would have thought of these issues. Would've been nice to know how they dealt with them.
@tubester4567

Its because Chinese always say people are "shocked" by Chinese construction projects. Truth is, nobody is shocked, and most Chinese projects have western engineers including 3 Gorges Dam. Basically its just dumb nationalism.
@yunfanfan9452

@@tubester4567 LOL you actually sounds like suffering from dumb nationalism. Go check Wikipedia for the tallest, longest bridges, longest tunnels, check news for building speeds, high speed trains ... Then talk to me about western engineers vs Chinese. In construction, China is the undisputed #1 in the world for the past 10 years, BY FAR.

It's a response (I imagine) to all the "China amazing construction project shocks American engineers!" kinda videos that you can find if you take a look. An amazing Chinese engineering project, of which there does seem to be many, is nothing unless it shocks America, on some KZbin channels at least. It's all a bit tiresome.

What shocked Chinese engineers was the cost of Norwegian highways. The cost of highways of the same level in China only needs one-third of that of Norwegian highways. Regarding the world's first underwater expressway, I have my doubts, because the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in China that I know is equipped with an undersea tunnel and has been open to traffic for 4 years. The Shenzhong Expressway that will be opened to traffic is also basically under the sea. If it refers to the road suspended in the water, then the captain should be shocked, because I believe that the captains of large ships and military submarines should not like this design.

If you think so, you are wrong. Norway has a record in building construction with the Troll A gas platform in the North Sea. The Troll A platform has an overall height of 472 metres (1,549 ft), weighs 683,600 tons (1.2 million tons with ballast) and has the distinction of being the tallest and second heaviest structure ever moved by humankind. The platform stands on four legs extending down to the sea floor 303 meters (994 feet) below the surface of the sea, and the leg containing the import and export risers has an elevator that takes over nine minutes to travel from the platform above the waves to the sea floor. There are experiences from engineers who have built these oil and gas platforms they intend to use in the construction of the coastal highway.

@IloveJellow 2 жыл бұрын
well the larger issue for those floating tunnels would more less the wakes created by such boats having it floating will cause drag on it causing it drift out with the waves this would cause major stress on the connecting points of the tunnels and also even greater stress on the 2 points of the middle section where the drifting occurs. You would need a material that is very flexible and stretchy without making too much difference on the road inside. Even if you create a counter drift there will still be stress being applied to the materials even though it would take longer for a critical failure to happen still wouldn't stop it at some point the cost along for making sure that doesn't happen would be up in the trillions just to keep it together.

@IloveJellow 2 жыл бұрын
the problem with those tunnel bores is that once it completes a job its normally scraped on site and then buried because the cost of retransporting and repairing is more expensive than making a brand new one so often time most of carbide bits are still left in them because they are mostly chewed through. Even though it does make creating tunnels easy its lack of reusable bore heads makes them costly project and why they either don't do the project because of how man bore heads will be required or logistics is too high so they bust before ever getting started. Also depending on the density of the rock being bored into they sometimes need to do a switch while underground which requires making a shaft so planning ahead is another that needs to be done making the necessary shafts along the way and hoping that nothing strange happens in between or you end up having to make an shaft down and wasting more time and resources. Great machines just not quite optimized yet still better than doing it by hand by long shot.

One does wonder in the modern age, with excellent communication, why virtual travel is not standard. These infrastructure projects are from the old Linear world. In event of earthquake or tidal Rogue waves, they could be erased.

Amazing project and unbelievable cost. With the same amount of money China can build a high-speed train line with the same length or 5 high-ways with the same length. How about a cooperation? Next time you give the idea and pay China a little money to fulfill your dream?
