Norway Maple Bonsai - Spring Repot, Partial Defoliation, Fall Colors

Started this tree as a thick stick in a pot with a couple of chopped off branches coming out the top. I was happy to find good nabari and I’ve been slowing this bonsai down and trying for slower growth. Thus the transplant into a smaller container and partial defoliation. The colors are great in the fall and a super hardy species for bonsai. Easy to find across the continent and it’s an imported species, Norway maple is used in a lot of landscaping.

Fun tree to work with, super strong and fast growing. I’m finding the trick is how to slow growth. Thus the report and partial defoliation.

Ya I could turn into a stronger bonsai by losing all that straight trunk and or getting better nabari 😀👍
