The most well-known company in Odda has been Odda Smelteverk, which was established in the early 1900s. The smelter produced, among other things, carbide, calcium carbide, and ferrosilicon, which were important products for various industrial sectors. At its peak, the smelter was one of the largest employers in the region.

Awesome video. I live in Sauda and you passed my house by 30 metres. The waterfall that you passed at 14:16 is called the 'bridal veil' and its beautiful after heavy rainfall. For info, I can tell you that Svandalsfossen can become so big that the road is closed due to too much water over the road so that you cannot see the road on the other side of the waterfall😄. Too bad you didn't have the weather on your side. I have a MC identical to yours and I drive on these roads all summer. This road is loaded with MC all summer. Have a good trip

Hi, thanks very much! Oh wow, so next time we will stop by for a cup of tea =) -what a beautiful place to live! Thanks for the info, we pass through so many places in a day it's hard to keep track so we really appreciate your local knowledge. Wow, we had no idea that can happen! it must look amazing when that much water is flowing -albeit very inconvenient lol The weather has improved a lot now but rain or shine it's an epic adventure to tour through Norway. You have the perfect bike for the country! Thanks again and kind regards Sean and Emily

That road over Röldalsfjellet was the main road before they built them tunnels. Been there with caravan in the 80,s and mark my words when i say it took time back then. Lot of reversing and stops it was. Glad you find them roads because main roads are often packed.

19:36 and 26:47 the north-west side of the path. The postal route went through this pass, and it was so dangerous in the winter that the postmann was said to have a coffin ready in his barn. Januar 1903 postman Gunnar Turtveit and his assistant got surprised by an avalanche, the assistant managed to escape. The boy was not able to find him and went for help, but the search party had to return due to bad weather, and the postman was left for dead. After three days of digging using his post horn, the postman managed to dig himself out and deliver the post to the next "post farm" (relay points where the next postman carrier the post for the next leg) In total postman Gunnar Turtveit was taken three times by avalanches, and survived all times. Beside this road (between the lake and the current road) there is a stone that has inscribed on it: "In memory of postman G. Turtveit buried for 56 hours under an avalanche 3 Jan 1903, dug himself out with his post horn"

Nice to see your first impression on Norge! It is an amazing land!I had the same the first time in 2007 when we rode there with 12 bikes! The rough windy and snowy plateaus were stunning. We did get stuck in a snow storm at the Dalsnibba and have to return. It is my most favorite country in Europe…..en cheaper then Swiss….😂 The potholes you should get on your trip…and wish that you rode on the (credit card payed gravel roads)

It sure is an amazing land! That must have bee fun with the 12 bikes! We were late in the season so all the snow had gone by the time we got there. Yeah there are lots of routes we had to miss as we only had 4 weeks for this entire trip to the Nord Kapp and back through the Baltic states. Haha yeah cheaper than Switzerland for sure but it's catching up!

Emily I nearly said, “be quiet and let Sean concentrate” lol, some of those pass roads are certainly not for the feint hearted! One great aspect of the GS is it does give fantastic engine braking, so you don’t have to wear your brakes out when descending ! By the way I’ve not really been a fan of all black bikes but as the pair of your are dressed in black and the bikes luggage is black etc it does look very cool, very James Bond 😀. I’m going to keep a reference to this trip, definitely one for the bucket list! Ride safe ! 👏👍😀🏍

Hi, hehe when Sean's really concentrating almost nothing distracts him lol. Yeah the engine braking from the GS is amazing -funny enough the back brakes wear out quick as the engine braking shifts a lot of the weight to the back before the brakes are applied. Thanks we life the look too -there are glimmers of reflective silver that you cant really see on the video and they look cool too -James Bond licence to thrill =) Thanks for watching and best regards Sean and Emily

@SeanandEmily Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes we do have the Shift assist it's actually really good as you say. I find though on the GS at lower revs it's a lot smoother to use the clutch, so when riding casually (on autopilot) i trend to go for the clutch without thinking. when riding 'sporty' the shift assist is super smooth and fast. I've noticed the shift assist is a lot smother on the 4 cylinder bikes (as is everything else lol) Sean and Emily

This year I've discovered your youtube channel and it's been awesome to watch you guys! 😁Do you have any tips for a new motorbike traveler when it comes to booking accomodations? I'm about to embark on my first trip and I'm wondering what is the best approach when it comes to those things?
@SeanandEmily
@SeanandEmily 4 ай бұрын
Hi and welcome to the channel, we are happy to have you with us 😊 Personally we always book accommodation about an hour or so before we need it using hotels.com. This enables us to not be so restricted by how many miles we have to do. However if you plan on staying in places that are popular then it's better to book in advance or at least the morning of the same day. That's how we do it, this way you are never stressing about missing one of your bookings and thus missing subsequent bookings. If you start searching an hour or so before you need to stop you will at least have the option of finding somewhere within the area so you don't have to double back on yourself. Only a few times have we been caught out with availability and had to ride an extra couple of hours to find something. Thanks for watching and in the description of these heading North episodes you will find a link to the days route in case that's useful 😎👍
