I grew up right by the Hjørundfjord, but now live in Bergen. Miss the fjord and the alps / mountains there. The pictures of the mountains in this video give me good childhood memories, I remembered as a small child often fantasized about how to go up on the steepest sides and peaks of the mountains there. You have a nice youtube channel, thank you Matthew!

You are absolutely spot on when it comes to the no. 1 fjord in Norway; Hjørundfjorden! In lack of a better word, it's just INSANE. I would also add Tysfjord which features Norway's national mountain, Stetind, Lyngenfjord with the picturesque Lyngen alps and the criminally underrated Efjord . Hard to pick no. 5 among the 1700 named remaining fjords, though...

Wow! Absolutely breathtaking. Funny though, I was just talking about you and your videos this weekend when somebody asked me what would be my first favorite destination if I ever won the lottery. I answered Norway instantly. Now I can't wait for the best gravel roads in Norway since I do particularly like gravel riding, maybe more than I do tarmac roads. Thanks again Matthew for making me dream.
@matthewnorway3 жыл бұрын
Glad the videos allow you to experience Norway in some form. You'll love the gravel roads next 🙂
You, sir, make great and interesting videos. I really can't understand how you have only 5500 views at the time I am writing this. How KZbin makes suggestions to people are of course a mystery, and I don't know how to promote videos on KZbin. But, if I could help in any way, I would suggest showing it to TV stations. The reason I think like this is that you edit your vidoes in ways that are fun and interesting to watch. Well, I have seen a lot of your videos now, and I still want to see more. That concludes the praise from me this time, looking forward to many more vidoes from you.

I also hope that your "best of" gravel roads will feature the gravelroads of Nordmarka, being so accesible for so many people, even though they're not as exotic the gravelroads in far away places!

your videos never disappoint Matthew! I was so happy when I opened my YT homepage and found out you published something new. Thank you for what you are doing. I'd like to ask you if you got any tip on how to train climb living in a flattish land (Finland). I put Norway on my bike trip wishlist and would like to be fit enough for the climbs.

During winter find an indoor bike you can use (local gym etc). Find out or do an FTP test. Then cycle 3-4 mins at 105-110% of your FTP with RPM between 65-85. Do 4-6 intervals with 90s-2min breaks in-between each interval. Do that twice a week for 12 weeks and you'll see a real improvement in powering up them climbs.
@marcellopacifici3 жыл бұрын

Thanks so much for your beautiful videos Matthew, inspired me too for my first bikepacking in Norway. Hjørundfjorden - I got there from Ørsta by a new looking road to Store Standal (looks like a part of that was only gravel before) and that valley was one of the highlights of my trip, definitely recommended to those coming to the fjord from south/west. Will have to come back for the other side of the fjord with Norangsdalen though :)

Matt, I'm from Denmark and have cycled quite a bit here in my own country. Your videos give me good reason to cycle in the Norwegian fjords. There are probably good transport options to these places from e.g. by train or bus if I don't want to cycle all the way.? Expect the starting point to be Oslo and arrive there by ship.

Hi Erik, you'll find all the info you need regarding your questions on www.cyclenorway.com. There are many ways to use public transport to skip sections, I'm currently filming a series about that very subject.
