Congratulations/ Well done Mathew, I live in Newcastle upon Tyne, my wife was born in Bergen (Norwegian father) and her sister lives in Oslo. So we love Norway and regularly visit it, but more in winter than summer. I’m in a backpacking/gravel/wilcamping cycle group and we are hoping to venture from Scotland to Norway sometime. Could not come on your cycle weekend earlier this year. Hope our paths will cross sometime. PS we have a family cabin/hytte near Haugastøl. BW. Ian

Good Video, but I do not agree with the weight penalty on the rack side. For comparison: Apidura Saddlebag 17L = 425g Topeak Stabilizer for Saddlebag = 190g sturdy steelrail saddle + seatpost = +180g Total of 795g Ortlieb Quickrack = 580g Tatonka dry Sack 18L = 70g Some straps = 20g Total of 670g Plus the Rack gives you a hell of a lot more storage, you are able to run a dropped post, its aero and ridefeel is significantly improved due to the better weight distribution down to the wheel. I wouldn't go for the Tailfin unless you are sponsored by them 😉. Its just too friggin expensive and has no significant benefit to a normal Rack. Except you have a bike without rack eyelets. It can be fixed on the axle. Thats a plus. Cheers Consider using a Rack

Great information thanks. Getting to and from the start of a tour is a logistics issue on its own. Great if there's a bike friendly ferry like Newcastle or Hull to Holland. Otherwise a pain. And trains can be a nightmare. Please note in Holland when you take your bike on a train, they like you to remove panniers. So looking forward to detail on Norway.

What an over dramatised load if rubbish this video is. I lived in Murmansk for four years, crossed the border on my bicycle two years after the collapse of the USSR, and often crossed from both Norway and Finland to Russia without anything more dramatic than a prolonged passport check. This bloke thinks he's making a James Bond movie.

I'm curious, does Norway have any forest trails or bridal ways/off road routes? The on road sections look magnificent, but I do like to feel dirt under my tyres... 😉

This video beautifully showcases the magic of bikepacking Mjølkevegen! The combination of gravel roads, stunning landscapes, and well-placed amenities makes it look like the perfect introduction to Norway’s biking scene. The way you captured the Slettefjellet and Valdresflye sections really brought the route to life - such incredible scenery! This has definitely inspired me to learn more about this route. 🚴♂🌄

Good honest advice and asessment. Much appreciated. Re saddle bags I reccomend binning them. They are marketing spiel over practicality. Waddle, raised center of gravity, big assessibility issues plus everything needs to be so compressed. I use rear rack, small top rear rack bag plus mini panniers 5-10 liters each side (front wheel panniers on the rear). Works perfectly. Lower center of gravity, no waddlng, easy access, and minimum compression and honestly, no wind revistance issues. Give it a go!

Again, WOW! Always stunning landscapes and views. Can see so much more on a bike and enjoy it longer compared to having to keep the eyes on the road when driving.

I have been there last year on my trip from Oslo to Bodo. I drove on most of the streets you have been. I just wanted to hit Geiranger but didn't expect to be at one of the most beautiful roads like 51.

Really nice video and inspiring trip! I was wondering how you made the Norway map graphic in the beginning of the video, where you explain the full trip? Is it an add-in to Final Cut or Premiere Pro?

No, I paid a graphic designer to make it.

Hey, Great tour, but PLEASE dont say its that easy with bikes on a train in Norway. Its hell. Even with tickets. Bergen line is one thing but the rest is hopeless.. There is so mant buss for trains, and they often dont allow bikes. As adults, we can always figure it out, but when doint this with kids or a limited budget ist so unreliable and youoften get stuck. Slettefjellvegen :D the dream :D
@matthewnorway15 күн бұрын
I agree with you, but I only mention getting your bike on the Oslo to Bergen line is easy. The Trondheim to Oslo line is currently terrible, and I mention this on my route info page. But thanks for pointing this out as I will be more careful in any future video.

Great video Matthew. I've done bits of the route, including the excellent climb up to Slettefjell. I had thick mist though, so could see very little.
