I have to say, the hat kick is probably the only "fight" move. It is essentially a way for the guys to "one up" each other and impress the girls. And from my experience, it works ;)

@2gzctr3 Jeg hadde folkedans på barneskolen, som en del av musikktimene! Og det er jeg veldig glad for nå, var ikke det når jeg gikk på barneskolen. Synd å høre at de tydeligvis har sluttet med det.

Actually, it could also be danced to a jaw's harp, "torader" (when that came), plaing singing (tralling) or any other form of rythm instrument, it's just that the fiddle is most widely used the last 100 years :P

Een mah country when a man wants to proof his luf for a maiden, he must do many many dizzying twirls around a large bare floor to un-listenable screechy music, and then kick a pelt from a broomstick she holds over his head while standing on a chair. Eef he can do it two times without falling down, she must marry heem, but eef hees butt hits the floor, she's free.
