midway thru the audio is a rant about the difference between sharing, showing what you did, explaining it or even saying how you did it AND calling yourself a trainer, monetizing & making money off your content as an authority on the subject(s). If you're going to do that in our lil biz you better be an expert, whether thru experience, research or both. This is not aimed at anyone. I think what people are doing is very smart and enterprising but if you're going to talk about complex dangerous things in this biz you better know what you're talking about. The vast majority won't see gaps in your knowledge but those higher in the canopy absolutely do.

Yeah man that's why ' how to's ' arent my thing. I for sure let people know all the time I am not a trained professional and I do things my way which is not always the right or safest way. Thanks for posting . Have a killer day law !

I was a ground guy for 3 months when our lead climber quit, went out and bought a saddle and started watching KZbin videos on how to rig. 3 years in, no formal trainer still, and I can officially say I’m KZbin certified. 😂 Literally...I would watch a video on how to span rig and the next day, hour , or even tree after lunch and I was trying it. A lot of times I was doing things probably out of my skill set but I made them work.

Love the sentiment Lawrence. There is a hierarchy within the arborist community just like any community, and I think it's important to know your place within that community. Not to breed inhibition, but to breed earnestness and ambition among those who have not yet paid their dues within the canopy or on the stump. It is clear that you have paid yours and it is undoubtedly so that you have earned the right to assume the role of teacher. Unfortunately, we are living in a time when people want to to work for a day and be declared experts on the second...But there are very few folks watching their how-to videos. And responsibility should be placed on the individual, even though it is far more commendable to accept and revere that responsibility as you do.

Hey Lawrence, not just anchor forces to be concerned about, in-line forces in the highline rope are also worrisome. I suggest going with a class two fibre as less initial input tension is needed (less stretch), higher MBS comparative to same diameter polyester too. High lines be rigged dual, side by side or stacked on top of each other too. I know that you know this, just putting out here in the comments for interested riggers to read and ponder. Good job mate, exciting to see such work.

Absolutely the best rant I’ve heard in forever. Stice and I talk about this frequently. So many people are trying to do what you did in this video with absolutely no force or weight calculations. Just flying by the seat of their pants and getting away with it this time. If we want to be considered professionals then we need to put in the math and physics behind the profession of it. I could talk your ear off on this. Absolutely ecstatic to listen to your message. It’s needed so very badly. I just hope people listen closely and actually hear you. At the end of the day i did maaaaaany mistakes ! i will learn from them for tomorrow where i will do many mistakes again and again. I feel like most climbers have a unique bag of tricks and I try to pick stuff when I see something that would be handy. Because every situation requires a different approach. I love elaborate rigging scenarios but for the most part I keep things as simple as possible and have learned a lot from climbers who make due with primitive techniques. We should all try and breed the atmosphere of excitement for learning from each other. I see way too many keyboard warriors freaking out over "industry standards" in comment sections and in my head I am thinking that these closed minded individuals would not last a week here in the PNW as a production climber.

What’s the knot/s you used to tie the chogs with? I like how it cradles the piece with seemingly little chance of it slipping out… as I’m sure we’ve all experienced happening to a chog with a simple running bowline 😅 Great work sir 🤘🏼
