Nice! The fact that it was a pin oak makes it even more impressive! Those things have hands and will put up a fight all the way to the chipper. Very enjoyable to watch.

Beauty setup dude. I'm making my own trolley out of steel plate to do something similar. Don Blair used to sell a rigging trolley that weighted 8 lbs, he said the weight helped to keep the lines from twisting and fouling up, keep everything aligned. This is one way I plan on using it - with nice long crane slings. Hell of a job. - Patrick

Some crazy preparations and money cuts happening here. Glad I didn't hold back on the $ for rigging gear. Hope I don't need it for anything like this any time soon. Experienced ground guy's are worth a fortune and in high demand in my neck of the woods. Hope to find or shape and mold one soon. Takes the fun out of it when your the only one who understands what need's to happen.

Absolutely awesome brother! Do you ever run the zigzag in SRT what’s your favorite rope if you do I’m in the market for a new one and looking at the Petzl flow or all gear Cherry bomb
@therealzigzagman
@therealzigzagman Жыл бұрын
I haven’t run it srt very much. I usually use a rope runner for that. Of those two ropes, I’ve only used the flow, and found it very, very bouncy. I wouldn’t imagine it’d be good srt.

Super cool stuff. I've been wanting to get into some highline stuff and just haven't had the right opportunity yet. Do you have any thoughts on knowing how to determine tension on the white rope in your system?
@therealzigzagman
@therealzigzagman Жыл бұрын
You want it as tight as you can get it. We had 300 ft of rope in that system, so tons of stretch to pull out. It needs to be tight to maintain the height in the system.
@therealzigzagman
@therealzigzagman Жыл бұрын
Important to know the ratings of the rope, and the power behind what you’re using to tension it
@zaccheus
@zaccheus Жыл бұрын
@@therealzigzagman I didn't even think of pretensioning the stretch out of it 🤔 I've always been worried about the tension that rope sees when loaded. I understand that you used a remote anchor on the high side so that the force application on the tree was mostly downward. How much load do you think was reasonable to put on that system. The tension on the white rope has the potential to multiple times the load on the red/white rope right?
@therealzigzagman
@therealzigzagman Жыл бұрын
@@zaccheus the more important thing is the direction of the force. We have estimates for what we think it saw, but the important thing is being safe with force direction, and starting small with stuff if you’re unsure

The Keanu is awesome! Looking at adding one to my kit for this lake front property. All the wood and brush needs to go up hill. A high line with the Keanu would move the loads. Which high line and load lines have you found to work best with the system?

Most of the ropes used here were 300’, but it really depends on how far you need to go. Best to measure the job site and see.

@therealzigzagman
@therealzigzagman Жыл бұрын
I’m sure the principle setup is the same. The only difference with logging like that, is you’re dealing with rated anchor points and relatively known weights, or at least weights you can put down if too heavy upon lifting.
