The language I'm teaching is not Bokmål nor Nynorsk. It's an east dialect and I don't think you will have much problem with bokmål after this. :) And everyone will understand this.
I am Norwegian, from Norway. Born and raised. I live in Oslo, with my husband and son.

I have to say, as an english speaker who also speaks german, this language is simply mind boggling in how different it is, mind boggling in how many parallels I can draw with german, and mind boggling in it's pronunciation. Can't wait to begin!

@kcmo1988 No, takk means thanks. However, the reason they used that exact phrase is because there is no "please" in the formal. It sounds awfully weird when I think about it, but please is used more in informal speech between friends and families, but then it's used in "would you be so kind"-type (v'ær så snill). Please, translated "vennligst" is not usually used in formal speech, unless you are offended by something or are simply being condescending. Customs are weird, huh?

"og", I am a bit confused with this word ... I was taught that "g" is not said in case of many Norwegian words which end with letter 'g', _especially_ with "og", so "og" should be said much like the sound "å" only. But you say 'g' too ... Another question: do you say 'g' too with words end in -ig, like in "veldig' or 'dårlig"? And the most important: thanks for the new video :) I am about to visit Finland this summer, but hopefully I can return to Norway soon as well :) :)

I dated an exchange student from Norway in High School, hun heter Caroline. She got me interested in Norway and learning norwegian. i want to come to the country sometime for a tour. I am really enjoying your videos, Karin! They are awesome and useful! :) I love trying to learn things literally when I am translating languages, when it is possible. In the sentence -"Vil du dra pa kino?" does it kind of mean Will you drag me out to the movies? We say that to our friends in English sometimes. i am just very curios of the literal meaning of this sentence in Norsk. Tussen takk Karin!
@NorwegianTeacher
@NorwegianTeacher 7 жыл бұрын
haha, that is pretty funny. it could mean that yes, cause "dra" also means "drag" or "pull". But it is also just a word for going some place, to leave, to be going. But it is a funny way to learn it though :D

Hei! You know... single words aren't really the problem. I already know some sentences and words (well... at least in theory) and i can pronounce them. But... when trying to put them in a complete sentence and talking as fast as you... it doenst work. I guess... the words sound different wheter saying them one by one or in a quick sentence. Are there any hints you can provide me? I would be most thankful. Thanks in advance! Ha det bra! PS: Jeg kommer fra Tyskland.

Nynorsk is only a written language, but there are dialects out there that even most Norwegians would have a hard time understanding. æ ø and å shouldn't be a problem, as if you write ae, oe and aa instead, most norwegians can understand it.

(Yes, writing at norwegian, use google translate or ask me for translation of single words if you do not understand) Norsk er et av de språkene man kan snakke ekstremt fort, hovedsaklig fordi man kan snakke på innpust (et av de eneste språkene i verden). Vi snakker også "oppover", som om vi stiller spørsmål uansett hva vi sier. (dette gjelder folk som bor på østlandet; i dialekter heller ofte tonefallet nedover). Tenk at du stiller spørsmål hele tiden, da blir ordene enklere å uttale. :)
