Nice! Now you have me looking for cruises to Puerto Plata! We have been there once before with Carnival about 4 years ago..Can't recall if we docked at Taino Bay Port, it looks really nice, especially that lazy river! Thanks for sharing!
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
Carnival Corporation almost always uses Amber Cove, since I believe they paid to have that port area constructed especially for their ships, but if Amber Cove was super full you might find yourself bumped over to Taino Bay, who knows!! :P

I'll be in Puerto Plata on the MSC Meraviglia next year, it's really nice to see I can use it as a mostly free day, especially because we don't get into port until around noon.

Can't wait to be there in July!! 🎉

After your video, next time we are there we will definitely stay at the Port, we just saw it coming in and out from an excursion.

We've found a lot of good things to do out and about in the Dominican Republic, but that Taino Bay port area sure offers a lot of easy-access fun, ha ha!! :P

Fun ! You both are so much fun to watch. Do other ships dock at Taino Bay port? Such as Royal or Carnival? I would love to explore the port and lazy River.

Normally, Amber Cove is the preferred spot for Carnival Corporation ships, and most everyone else goes to Taino Bay!! :D

Thanks for showing the lazy river. That is the best we have seen so far. We are going to Taino Bay in April. Where did you put your backpacks while you were on the lazy river.
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
We had folks there to watch our stuff while we floated, but if we didn't, we would typically either lock our valuables down in a travel safe, or take the important stuff with us in a rolltop dry bag, both of which we have in our Amazon shop, hah!! :P (www.parodeejay.com/amazon)

Those drinks prices are crazy high!!!
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
The drink pricing at the port was pretty on-par with what we've come to expect from a touristy port, if those are the ones you mean. As for drinks onboard the ship, one thing we've noticed about Norwegian is that their a la carte pricing tends to be on the high side when it comes to food and drinks, possibly so that more folks will be tempted to purchase drink packages and dining plans...?

Hello, Always fun to see you two. Your amazon shop does not pop up for me. Do you offer aquatic hammocks? We shall be in Taino in several months. There are a few day pass resorts. None look too good. Any thoughts? Thanks, Patrick
@parodeejay9 ай бұрын
Strange! It comes up for me (parodeejay.com/amazon/) and we managed to eliminate the old issue where pop-up blockers used to break it. Hmmm. As for the DR, we vlogged the Sunscape property a while back and it was decent. We also did one through the cruise line, which I can't remember the name, ha ha.

Thanks for the video - I'll be there in a few weeks! At Taino Bay, I know you had your cameras with you while you were in the pools, but was your other stuff safe while you swam or did they have lockers?
@judybell353311 ай бұрын
Were all of the pools and Lazy River with tube free? Can you get from the other Puerto Plata port to this one easily? Great video!
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
The pools and lazy river are all included, yes! I'm not sure if you'd be allowed to visit the Taino Bay port if your ship was docked in Amber Cove, but I don't think there's a security check until the other side of the duty-free shop. It looks like about a 15-minute taxi ride from Amber Cove to Taino Bay, and there's a chance security folks at the parking lot entry gate would make you show a ship card to prove that your ship is docked at Taino Bay in order to enter the complex, so you could be turned away if you're docked at Amber Cove. Probably not worth the risk!! :P

@parodeejay Thank you very much for your detailed reply! I drove from Santo Domingo, over the mountains and stayed in Puerto Plata many years ago when it was surrounded by sleepy little towns with powder soft sands and light blue ocean. Each time PP has been on my cruise itinerary, it's been cancelled. When I finally get to one port or the other, I want to make the most of my time. Many thanks for all your wonderful videos!!!

Was there a safe place or lockers to put your belongings during the lazy river? Also I love your cover-up Dee! Where is it from?
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
We didn't notice any lockers, so we left our stuff around our chair area as we usually do. We had folks there to watch it while we floated, but if we didn't, we would typically either lock our valuables down in a travel safe, or take the important stuff with us in a rolltop dry bag, both of which we have in our Amazon shop, hah!! :P (www.parodeejay.com/amazon) As for the cover-up, it came from a thrift store a long, long time ago!! :D

Was wondering why you don’t drink the desalinated water on ships. Is it just preference or a medical reason?
@taustin652411 ай бұрын
For me personally, I swell up like a toad if I drink the water on a ship and I’ve tried it on several ships across multiple lines. There is still too much salt in it for me.🫤
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
Some issues with ankle-swelling in the past have put me personally off the water!! :P ~Jay
@SoloonaCruise11 ай бұрын
@@parodeejay Is it across all lines? Never thought about it and wondered why I have similar problems whilst eating low/no salt, which they cater for very well. I drink moatly tea and water whilst onboard.
@parodeejay11 ай бұрын
We stopped testing the effects of the water a while ago, hah... but it seemed to be across all lines, as they all take ocean water and remove *most* of the salt to create magical drinking water onboard!! :P

Taino River could be named after the Native or "Indian" people. The Taino people were [are] native to the Caribbean areas, mostly DR (Formally Hispaniola under the Spanish colony days), Cuba, Jamaica and PR. Much and their language and culture has been assimilated into Western society such as Barbecue (Sacred Pit), Tabaco (Tobacco) and Canoe. Unfortunately, as a race they are mostly lost through disease brought by the West, slavery from historical times and emigration to other parts of the Americas. Their DNA lives on in both Hispanic and African inter-breeding as this region was a bustling Port under the Spanish Empire from the 15th century. French and British Empires also laid claim to the region in the past, creating a melting pot of culture. The majority of "locals' in the Caribbean do claim Taino descent. I'm more of a cave painting, history and sightseeing that a Lazy River tourist, but that makes me a very useful member on trivia teams (Cruise or land based). 🙂 And while the concept of the lazy river in the port is very theme parkish, I agree it could do with some safety work.
@Dave1710111 ай бұрын
That lazy river does not look peaceful, enjoyable, or soothing at all. Getting wet ropes and roots all over me or being choked out by ropes spanning the river for no reason is not fun IMHO.❤

While you two cruise. Do have anything time to read a Bible. Jesus Christ is coming soon and I know it’s not the place to ask you. But heaven and hell does exist. Please I wish more people will get into reading the Bible before it’s to late. I love to cruise but I read my bible every day.bless you both.🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️
