Unbelievable on-the-spot performance by a massive talent, when most stars would politely but firmly just say no. There's only one Satchmo!

So much love for an African American at that time. Wonderful! Louis Armstrong practically got a standing ovation when he came out.

Louis could light up the room with his smile and his voice. When you get both together, well that's amazing. The crowd just loves him. And really who doesn't?

I wondered how how he was going to answer questions! One peep out of him with that voice and he'd be given away!

Armstrong's contribution to music cannot be overstated. Way before Hello Dolly, Mame, It's a Wonderful World, he laid down the basis for generations to come. He introduced swing into the vocabulary of music, the first to play and sing, pioneered soloing, introduced scat, extended the range of the trumpet, and much like Miles would do 30 years later, played one pretty note instead of a lot of fancy ones. GENIUS in working man's cloth. THE Man!

Do you know how many young adults have NO IDEA who satchmo aka Louis Armstrong was?????? Argh! And he's such a legend. At least I taught my kids the basics... Via CD player in the car!!!! I highly recommend exposing your children to the greats early, before pop radio takes over their lives!!!!!!

To prove what an extraordinary musician he is - he sang Hello Dolly in exactly the right key - without any instruments to accompany him! Compare this to any other version on youtube!
