On the cowl, I would cut the push tabs off, drill holes through the top and they make these push through plastic fasteners. There's a few different styles of them.

I think what you're doing is awesome and I would love the newer look on mine, too. But not gonna lie, I'd either pay for someone to do this or buy a newer truck. I get anxiety just watching all the grinding, cutting, bending, smacking, and 'eyeballing'.
