I truly enjoy your channel because you are informative, approachable and entertaining. I have just one quibble with this video: I wish one of your blind tasting options would have been a Super Tuscan to compare and contrast with the wine from Bordeaux. Keep up the great work.

Thank You! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 You are completely correct, and a supertuscan wine would be a nice addition in this video. I only didn’t add it because I had a different video where I tasted different supertuscan wines. But I guess each video is viewed separately, and I should take that into consideration when making them. Thank You. 🙏🏻

A fun & interesting video, thank you Agnes. I did guess most of them correctly, though I couldn't figure out the South African one. Bordeaux blends are enjoyable whenever you are in the wine world. I think it could be interesting to do a Bordeaux blend tasting with wines from Eastern Europe and the Near/Middle East. As they wines show their terroir quite well and the indigenous cultivars add a fun twist to the blends.
@NoSediment

Well, for me the most confusing was and still is the New Zealand one. I kept re-tasting it over several days and make a profile of that wine in my head, so I know the next time I am blind tasting! 😅 unfortunately, I myself am not as familiar with Eastern European wines in general, therefore, I would be struggling more. 😉

Isn’t the El Enemigo that got 100p (from both Robert P and James S) the ”GRAN ENEMIGO "GUALTALLARY" 2019”, which is a vineyard specific 85% Cab Franc, 15% Malbec. While the ”GRAN ENEMIGO 2018” is 50% malbec, 20% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc, 10% merlot and 5% petit verdot. I have the 2018 Gran Enemigo at home however so glad you liked it! Great presentation! Blends are often risky to try here in the States. When you find a tasty one, by the time you go back it’s all sold out. One great one recently was Caymus Suisun “The Walking Fool”, a Wagner blend from the little-known the valley east of Napa. Now I must find where in the US I can procure the El Enemigo you gave the 10 to!

Enjoyed your presentation very much. Huge fan of Le Petit Clos ( 2018 in my cellar ) which I prefer to the Gran Enimigo. I am always disappointed in the South African wines selected for tastings - there are so many much better examples of Bordeaux blends from SA - Glenelley Lady May, Keermont Amphitheatre, Taaibosch Crescendo, Paul Sauer from Kanonkop, Constantia Glen V, De Toren Fusion V, Mvemve Raats de Compestella and many others far more interesting blends and worthy of comparison in a line up like this presentation. I have all of these in my cellar together with many Bordeaux blends and enjoy them all. Thanks again and I shall give the Craggy Range a try. Cheers.

When you mentioned Eucalyptus, I immediately thought of Napa. I remember all the Eucalyptus tree row windbreaks there, placed perpendicular to the wind direction (just as I had in my backyard when growing up in So Cal). Why do I mention the Eucalypus trees? Look where they put the large bins/hoppers during "crush". Right under the trees! (A secret revealed to me by a wine insider.) That is why young Napa reds taste like you've been hit by baseball bat, and why they need to lie down for a bit. I don't know if the windbreaks are still there (they did serve a purpose), but the "bat to the face" is what I remember of Napa reds.
@NoSediment
@NoSediment Жыл бұрын
I am sure You right. 🌱 We each have our associations. For me Eucalyptus on the nose immediately takes to Australia. Apparently some of the leaves constantly would get mixed into the grapes, and because the aroma of eucalyptus is so strong, it is enough to add that distinctive flavour to the wine. 🍷 Cheers!
@mikegarwood8680
@mikegarwood8680 Жыл бұрын
@@NoSediment I should have mentioned that the Eucalyptus trees planted in California had their origin from Australia. They were originally brought here during the Gold Rush as a possible source of lumber (which failed); they were later set up for wind abatement (yes, I am a trained historian).

Very recently discovered your channel and I think you have offered some fresh topics to cover. Ur Vizsla is very cute too (I have a V myself) . Question:. do you think you would be able to determine the country of origin of the wines if you tasted the wines blind but did not know the possible countries upfront?
@NoSediment
@NoSediment Жыл бұрын
Hi, thank You for the lovely comment! 🙌🙌🙌 and my Vizsla - Obi Wan also sends hi! 🐕 Regarding Your question - complete blind tasting is of course way harder, and I cannot for 💯 say that I would have placed these wines in their respective origins. However, I wish to believe that Chile, Argentina and California would have been wines I can spot. But, I also say this only because Chilean wine was based on Carmenere and Argentinean was based on Malbec. If both of those wines would have been based on Cabernet Sauvignon - that would have made it more difficult! 😓

I disagree about vintages. Because they don’t have the same weight in the New World as in Europe. 🤷‍♀️ Also in Southern Hemisphere grapes are harvested on February/March - therefore the same vintage makes no sense as the grape growing wasn’t even at the same period. 🤷‍♀️ But on the other hand, yes, it is not a scientific comparison, but was meant more as fun tasting to have! 🙌 So, please, please don’t take it too seriously! 🙏🏻 Cheers! 🥂🍾
