How is it that none of you commenting can see what I did. That neighbours behavior was far more creepy than helpful. My wife and I are old and not getting any better, good neighbors are a blessing when you are no longer able to be physically fast on one's feet, some guy sneaked into our yard and damn near knocked me out, I do not know why he was there but I could have shot him dead as a door nail, he was looking for something to steal for drugs probably, I heard something and went outside to check and wham, I am down on the ground, he took off and my neighbor saw him and said we'll get him next time and I mean he'll not like what he's going to get, were on the alert for one another and help each other. so be nice and be a force together not a wedge, it will pay off in the long run.

I have a neighbor across the street who is always working outside or in his garage and if he saw some strange guy come to my house during the day knowing I was home alone, he probably wouldn't ask what you were doing there but he'd keep an eye out. Same as if I'm sitting outside and see a strange car pull up to one of my neighbor's houses. I just watch out and make sure no one's breaking in or messing with their shit.

That's fair enough, and what you might expect, but running over to ask what they are there for is a bit OTT IMHO, unless you know the person isn't home and you might take a message or sign for a parcel.

I think noisy neighbors are great. There was one time that one of them called the police because there was a red minivan driving up and down our block. I didn't know it at the time and my wife and I started to go out and got stopped by the police. I had (at the time) a red minivan exactly like the one reported. No problems as all I had to do was show my license with my address on it. I didn't hastle the police and they didn't hastle me. We have always had dogs and I feel that a good neighbor keeps his animals from bothering others. I went to each of the 3 widows on my block and told them that I would keep the dogs as quiet as I could. They all said that they liked the barking at strangers as this told them that there were strangers on the block.

Urgh, I had a neighbor like that BUT he wasn't our friend or a "bodyguard." He just stood outside, and watched our house. He would stand there and shake his head, as if he was just oooooh sooooo offended by every single thing we did, and every person that ever came over. HOW dare we have guests! He would get right to the edge of our property and just....STAND...and not move like a statue. He would walk up to our friend's cars and stare into them, or walk around them, then look up at our house, then back them. If anyone parked in front of his house (it was public street parking) he would put notes on their windshields about how they couldn't park there. If they had an older car, he would go on about things they "by law" had to get fixed. Then, he'd call and leave messages on our answering machines saying similar things to us (this was the late 90's) He started camcorder recordings of our house, or at least, pretending he was. I'm sure now, he does the same thing to whoever is living in that house at this time, but with his phone.

Never in my life would I buy into a co-op or anything similar. The guy with the place overlooking the beach should send his neighbor a high priced bill for using his deck, his time and gas travelling to fix the problems, messing with his camera and trespassing. Then he should use that money to buy a couple of cameras that can be concealed to catch the bastard when he tries to get his revenge. I'm much less patient with this behavior than most people are apparently.

TheTimbermania the ups and postman wear uniforms and drive well known vehicles. Good neighbors have to look out for each other this day and age. This country is full of violent people looking for any opportunity to harm others. This neighbor made no disparaging remarks nor acted inappropriately in anyway. He just by his very presence let a stranger know that his female neighbor was not alone. If your mind is looking for a racial motive, I showed this video to my son in law, who is African American, and he agreed, that he would have been concerned to see this stranger walking around our neighbors house.
