Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh
so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and the grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were young and the callow fellow.
Try to remember and if you remember
then follow
follow.
(Try to remember) when life was so tender
When no-one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
When dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
When love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember and if you remember
then follow
follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Without a hurt the heart will hollow.
Deep in December
it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made you mellow.
Deep in December our hearts should remember and follow
follow.

I'm 70 (ish) years old now, and well remember hearing Nana Mouskouri in the 70's live on TV and on vinyl records. Her rendition of "Try to Remember" brought tears to my eyes then, and now that I am "deep in December" in my life, tears flow just as easily if not more so. What a treasure Nana Mouskouri is!

I first noticed her when I was 50 yrs old. I didn't remember that song unfortunately, but I always listen to her songs tentatively whenever I come across. One of the DVD seller mentioned that her voice was so sweet and natural that she sings like a housewife singing easily ( humming ) while dusting the households. May she be happy if she hears my comment.

Old, how, we age, but, tears are here, for the simple plain beauty of old days, memories, loves, a life to be remembered, even with false hopes, soured memory, some regrets, but, a love of the little moments of pure beauty, in the fondness of it, and, especially, the lovely plain goodness of Nana lives...

You’re brother is well indeed flying high and looking out for you all. May the universe bless him and you. We think of all our loved ones with this song. Another very poignant and maybe even more emotional song for you is “open your eyes”. It makes me cry but is so beautiful to listen to. Maybe you already know it, but if you dont its beautiful. I manifest a beautiful and joy filled holiday season for you and your family. Its nice how we can bond through music. Thank you Nana, and thank you thank you for sharing your personal story with us and allowing us to connect :) ❤️

She's still (2024-July) alive, and can still sing - quietly, but in tune and control (unlike one of my other favourites who still has the power but has lost control). She (Nana) has mostly retired, other than for special occasions - she sang the Greek and French anthems at the lighting of the flame in Greece for the 2024 Paris olympics, for example.

@@allgood6760 Yes, she'll be 90 on October 13. For the above >89½ performance, see kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYCrfZyHj7d5sNk - don't expect as strong a performance as this one from about 50 years earlier! (and criminally poor sound mixing), but she clearly still enjoys singing.

I didn’t know she was around in the 70s as a child in the 80s but her no hit only love hit no 1 in the UK and I sang it in a talent competition, and saw her live and she shut off her mic and powerfully started to sing a song without a mic and i honestly was blown away this doesn’t do her voice justice love you nana . You inspired a generation.

Born 1934-10-13! Her recording career spanned from 1958! (To 201x, though she should have stopped earlier.) Her prime was the 1970s, as you can hear here - strong and pure - and the '80s. Yes, she could wow a crowd without a mike.

This is the theme song to the off - off Broadway musical ‘’The Fantastiks’’ . It was playing in a theatre on Spring street in Manhattan when I lived there. I never saw the musical but I was in it two different times with two different directors and different cast members with the exception of myself. I got to play the same role twice 7 years apart. I think this is the best quality clip of this (surely one of Nana's signature songs, along with Pirea, and the WROA) I've seen - both audio and video are excellent, and the performance - actually from both Nana and the musicians/harmonizers - are too. Is it from one of her BBC shows? (If so, you have rescued it in various ways, not least from BBC4 cropping.) Thank you for uploading it.
