Or to say it in another way: music doesn't have to be complicated or technically advanced to be good. notable examples include Mgła themselves and also Aosoth or example. Early darkthrone and Burzum as well. Then on the other hand you have bands like dodecahedron or deathspell omega or thy darkened shade that musically bring a lot more to the table than a few power chords or tremolo picking...

But for 2nd wave pioneers like Darkthrone and Emperor it was an aesthetic choice, and not "all they had". The raw production was part of the sound. But like other's have said, a cleaner sound definitely suits Kriegsmachine's approach.
