I went to a QandA with Chris Buck (co-director of Frozen and Tarzan) and he said he was really excited for what this movie was originally going to be- gun-slinging skeleton riders in a dark western movie. Instead, he said he had to spend 2 years with headphones listening to Jennifer Tille's voice and animating her as a cow. If I remember correctly, I think he sad it was the low point of his career.

At least this wasn't the last 2D animated film from Disney. The 2011 Winnie the Pooh movie was a wonderful goodbye from Disney, though I really wish they'd continue with 2D. The short "Paperman" looked amazing with 2D and 3D blended together, but the 2D was what really stood out. I hope they can use that method for future feature films.

Again a Disney film that could have been so much better(just like Atlantis: The Lost Empire) had it not overused the pop cultural references(both movies reference Blazing Saddles. In Atlantis they referenced the burp/fart campfire scene while eating, and in this movie they referenced The French Mistake scene). At the time this was made, every kid movie was using pop cultural references and the only movies that it worked in were Cheaper By the Dozen(Steve Martin remake) and The SpongeBob movie: First one. Glad Disney got back on their feet with Frozen and Big Hero 6.

I actually think this movie had a lot of potential. There are many questions surrounding these characters that could have interesting answers, for example: why is Alameda Slim a thief? Where did he get his hypnotic singing voice? Why does Rico work for him? What´s the rabbit´s story? Why is Mrs Caloway so attached to her hat? They could have made interesting answers to those questions, but instead we barely know a thing about the characters.

This is easily Disney's weakest film. I would go so far as to say that it's their worst film, mainly because it fails (in a spectacular manner) in two features that are key for most Disney films: the characters and the songs. The characters are boring, bland, and gut wrenchingly unfunny. You don't feel anything for them, you don't care about their "problems" and it feels like every line of dialogue was handcrafted to make you want to smash your head against a wall. The songs are just awful, so much so that I can't remember a single lyric of any one of them. And the villain song, the one song that is always (or at least most of the time) the highlight of any Disney animated musical is probably the worst Disney villain song ever; it's a song about a villain who likes to yodel, how is that ever going to be good? This movie is so bad that I would rather watch Chicken Little in theater again, rewatch the Aristocats with my little sisters for an entire year, and buy a Blu-ray copy of Cars 2 before ever seeing this movie again. THIS. MOVIE. SUCKS

Because of this movie, Disney considered stop doing 2D animation. What they got wrong is that they thought the movie was bad because it wasn't completely computer-generated imagery. The problem was that it had annoying characters and a bad story. I'm not saying not to 3-D animation Disney uses now is bad, it's actually really good. But I do miss the 2D animation they use to use in movies. Like snow White and the seven dwarves, beauty and the beast, and the lion King.

And yet again with that said; I never watched Home On The Range and I'm glad I never did. We had great animated features back in our day, like the one about this fox who, er, imitates a famous historical socialist, who, er, steals things from this capitalist lion for aaaa king. Or the one about them chickens who, errr, perform their own prison break after being abused from them Nazi farmers. Or the one about them kids, who, errr, watch this R-rated movie, which leeeeads to a civilish war. Well between two countries. Those was the days!!!

Honestly, not everyone is always looking for something new. Sometimes people do actually want a dumb, cliche story with sappy tones where the good guys just plain win. And that's okay. is this a good movie? No, but at least it follows a feel good formula which for some people is enough. There is no need to see it, but if you want a lighthearted animated movie that tells an old story in a semi-new way, give it a shot. In my opinion, there are far worse movies that make no sense, animation is horrendous and it's not even entertaining. So if you're entertained by this, great! No one should really care. It's fine if it is your taste, or if it's not. That's what we have guilty pleasures for and sometimes we don't want to use our brain, and that's okay. So long as it isn't all the time. it's okay to have a comfort zone, just don't stay in it forever.

Something interesting I should mention. "Brother Bear" was supposed to come out before "Home on the Range," but a reason that I don't remember, they had to switch the two movies around. So when "Brother Bear" came out, it didn't do well in the box office and got panned by critics. But when "Home on the Range" came out, it was an even bigger bomb. The reason I'm comparing these two is because the ratings they have on Rotten Tomatoes. "Brother Bear" has a 38% rating, while "Home on the Range" has a 54% rating (yes, 54%.) What I'm saying is that if "Brother Bear" came out the year it were supposed to, It probably would have made a better impression on critics, and made more money, and Disney would have continued making more hand-drawn projects. Say what you want about it, but "Brother Bear" definitely seems more Disney than "Home on the Range." I'm not I don't like Disney's most recent movies. I really love them. I love Tangled, Big Hero 6, and Frozen. Sorry haters of "Frozen," but I definitely think it feels like Disney.

I think that Doug forget many details. For example, the brown cow it's selled to this new farm, but in the same day that she came to the farm they realized that they are in bankrupt, they have financial problems and they decided to bought another cow? And the characthers, damn, they are really hateful. The brown cow it's annoying with her acttittude about how-she-will-solve-everything, but the black one it's even worst; she hates the new cow since the first moment she heard about her coming, and she is really mean with her (she constantly blame her about all the problems and shouting and criticism her for any detail). The horse is another idiot who is constantly insulting the cows and laughing about their disgraces (and the cows make the same to him, to be fair). Also there's a rabbit and a buffalo that I don't remember what they do in the movie. The only characther that I liked it was been the yellow cow. I like her acttitude because she is kind and positive all the time. She deserves to be the main characther and teach to the kids something. Futhermore, what is the lesson of this movie? I don't remember. The only movie I hate more than this film it's Chiken Little, but definetely this is one of the worst movies of Disney industry.

Maggie (the new cow) wasn't bought by the farm. Her owner used to have a ton of cattle but they were all stolen from him, and he couldn't afford to keep his place. So he GAVE Maggie to the farm and they offered to take her on at no expense.

briannaMBrown Haha, I agree! This movie might not be Oscar-worthy but that doesn't mean that it's not worth seeing. Oh, yeah, she hams it up. Maggie is one of my favorites.

Does anyone remember the review for this movie when the reviewer is visited by the grim reaper and is told that he must review a Disney movie. When he's told it's this movie, he begs to review another one- and the reaper shows The Jungle Book 2- and then the guy says "you know what? Give me Home on the Range"

This is the only Disney film I remember seeing as a child but remember almost NOTHING about. It was so forgettable
