We are living in a time that didn’t turn out as expected. It's 2024, and it’s nothing like the people in the 80s wanted or imagined it would be. There are no flying cars, no world peace, no good jobs, no affordable housing, and no civilized politics. Arguments are filled with stupidity. Back then, people wanted to live in the future and had high hopes for it. Now people realize we haven't reached what was envisioned, we have lost the hope for the future and wish to go back in time...

It sadly feels like after 9/11 we lost the timeline of what we were supposed to have. While we mourned the losses and what felt like true patriotism and camaraderie, slowly turned into malice and hate. Growing up in the late 90s/00s I yearn for the way we connected. No texts, meeting people. Meeting strangers is on a screen now, versus organically. Not what I imagined.

I can concur with other comments here! In the early 80's as a young kid growing up in the UK, largely everything was respected and seemed emergent and exciting. A simple computer game on your TV was a privilege and a wonder. The thought of Y2000 was barely in mind; was some kind of futuristic whatever - the 'now' was enough; an exciting place to be - people lived for the moment, day today, week to week, and made enjoyment of often the little they had. Nowadays, you can have everything - right now - but it ain't enough. Value seems to have been replaced by convenience and immediacy - if that's staying in touch with people (person, phone, mail), or getting what you want right now - delivered tomorrow. Music too was emergent and exciting: the sound of Michael Jackson's Thriller album coming from nowhere - blowing eveyones minds; the haunt of Band Aid, and wonder of Live Aid; music created by bands full of musicians young and old - with no unnecessay expedient and exploitative almost pornographic portrayal. You could stop, and the world seemed to be able to stop with you. Now, most seem like they're watching some form of crazed carnival going by fro the sideline - wondering where the hell it came from. Y2000 (Y2K) came and went without too much fanfare - or what fanfare there was seemed cobbled together quickly - in London, UK with a big wheel and one bizarre idea of a HUGE exhibition tent on the River Thames (which seem to have taken on greater value and appreciation as time has passed). Shortly into the relative peace of new millenium came the horror-spectacle that was 9/11, where humanity was scarred with a shocking slash accross the heart, and robbed of freedom and perhaps the exciting trajectory the world was on at the time - we will never know what we lost out on. We now seem to have a hurt and divided society - amplified by technology - when compared with what we had before. Do be grateful with what you have now - you never know when it may not be here (family, health, opportunity) with all the problems that come with them. Love, and know you are loved more than you will ever know - go find that love - there is one true source for it!

I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.
