Nostalgic Drags at Willowbank Raceway - Gassers/Vintage Gas/Muscle Cars

I had an absolute blast while in Australia. Going to the Nostalgic drags at Willowbank was highlight. I'd not see gassers in action before. I'd actually thought they 'd gone extinct. How very wrong I was.
The rules for racing gassers are quite strict. It makes sense, given that they replicate a specific scene/period of drag racing from days gone by.

I'll make a photo of one around here in my hometown. ;) QOTD: High speed driving? I'd love to drive a Mines Skyline R32 or R33 once. I have vivid gaming memories of those cars at the high speed ring.

+Trent Marlowe 1 - I've changed my vote from the earlier video of "what car would you import"... I would definitely like to see one of these in the States. 2 - NICE! 3 - Nope - it's a 1970-72 AMC Hornet sedan. A quick way to tell an AMC is the door handles. They used the same cheap flip-out handles on all their cars in the later years to save money. 4 - AH! THANKS! Now that I put your info into Google I see it's a 1970. They were incredibly uncommon in the State's 'til the mid-70s, and by then they looked completely different.

i must ask because i am in Canada. what is it with all the more door's? do people there like more doors instead of 2 doors ? or is it more expensive to buy 2 doors? or is there some kind of restriction against them? i get the Ut's but the fugly more doors are well ,,, strange.

Australia's small population couldn't support volume sales of two-door coupe/hardtops. We use what we got.

those are called gassers there on special gasser chassis I believe they let you put all the power to the ground instead of doing a wheelie

+abracing199 my understanding is that they did it for improved weight transfer, with the nose in the air at launch, all the weight is already at the back wheels at take off so initial traction issues are minimized. It was somewhat effective but was quickly outdated by modern tyres/aerodynamics/suspension/technology

+Bikerbob59 Simple necessity. Lower population/smaller production numbers often meant no 2 doors for most models. Naturally, the 2 door cars that survive are super hard to get a hold of. 2 doors are sexier no doubt, but when it's 4-door or nothing, it becomes real simple.
