I use my cane as a bayonet, first, a club next. I like my distance, not knives cutting me. Still believe in situational awareness, still contemplating how to kill potential assailants, when in my personal space. 74 years old, still surviving, 173rd Airborne Brigade, 1968.

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate your breaking down walking stick defense to the most simple but effective technique. Too many cane-defense videos show elaborate techniques being used that would require many hours of practice to learn. I agree with you that civilian personal defense does not require learning all the fancy "come-a-long" and "take-down" holds that so many cane masters want to show off with. Just "whack-em" and then get away sounds like the best plan. Both my knees and ankles are shot so I use a cane to get around. If someone threatens me I can't run so I have no choice but to stay and fight. While I am a firearms expert I have no desire to go through the legal nightmare that would be unleashed against me if I had to shoot someone on the street. I carry a custom-made oak cane that is very heavy and that is the only "go-to" defensive weapon I carry in public.

As for the gun, your not a gun guy, we carry guys s so we can get home alive. I'll answer to a jury if my peers rather than not come home. I will use my gun to kill the guy that wants to kill me or my loved ones no matter what the cost.

As a disabled person that need's a cane for walking every day and at the same time some kind of weapon for self defense I find it very useful. Let me recommend a couple of tools that I use, the Cold Steel Walking Stick for those who want a non lethal weapon and the Heavy Duty Sword Cane, also from Cold Steel, for those who need walking aid an also a disguised lethal weapon.

Great video! I have 4 grown wonderful kids who’ve I’ve tried to impress with some common sense safety tips while growing up. Number one: Be aware of your surroundings! That means keep your head up and eyes active. I see so many people walking around seemingly oblivious to what’s going on around them.(headphones) Believe me, predators pick up on that. Look up the street to the next corner. Scan the area. Do a quick head turn to see what’s behind you.(that saved me from a sneak attack twice that I’m aware of). Make it kind of a game. Your body language should show confidence. Have a plan, even if it’s a loose one. Got pepper spray? It’s not doing you any good in your backpack, pocketbook or buried in your cargo pants pocket. Have it in your hand ready to go. Get familiar with the safety, so you can manipulate it without looking. Did you ever do any test sprays to see exactly what happens? Is the predator up or down wind? Spray gel can shoot upwind. Walk with other people. Stay well
@ronfox5519 Жыл бұрын
Great points one and all, just be aware that gel spray doesn't work instantly. There's a small delay. But after having done a few tests, and getting at least a bit of that stuff on me EVERY SINGLE TIME(one of those times I was 'incapacitated'), I said no way to the regular spray.

Batons are illegal in California. It’s always good to have a legal option that can believability be carried and still use like a baton. There are times when a big flashlight is the most believable weapon to carry. There other are times when your walking stick is the better choice.

I carry two to 3 guns on me everyday and a stiletto switch blade but thinking about changing up the EDC. What would do you think of a 20-26 inch expandable baton or mace as a first resort and or a taser. Personally I don’t think I want one shot than can anger a person more and 25 percent of the population can’t be fazed by a taser so they say. Used to carry a kubaton but got to be body to body to utilize. What would you recommend would like to try to get down to one gun one knife and one first line of defense. Chime in if you got a moment with your opinion. Thanks

Hi Mike’, I do hiking and camping and don’t want to carry a gun on the trail but I do think about self defense. What’s your thoughts on a walking stick with a 18 inch blade in it. I’m and older guy 64 in shape and took judo as a kid when we lived in Japan. Do you see any problems carrying this. Old guy from Arkansas 🇺🇸
@nostressmike5 жыл бұрын
I am not a fan of the blade in the cane. After saying that, there's an exception to every rule. There's only one problem that I can foresee and that is, is it legal? Then again, when it comes to my personal safety the law takes the back seat. You're comfortable with it, you practice with it, and gain confidence. I think it would work very well. Thank you for sharing your idea. Mike

I don't know where you're located, but I've never ever seen anyone brandishing a tomahawk. I guess it could happen. I've found two older wooden canes with curved handles and they are STOUT. Oak or hickory or something like that. Keep one in my truck and it's much "safer" than having a baseball bat or something else in there.
@nostressmike8 жыл бұрын
I've had to brandish my hawk once in Guatemala, normally I keep it dissembled so I don't scare people. I made a video talking about walking with a hawk after SHTE and you don't want trouble like you could have if you carried an open firearm. A cane with the hook takes some practice, and would work well against anything up to a firearm. Mike

It all depend on the interpretaion of the particualar court one finds them selves in when accused of having a weapon such as a "Walking Stick". One can utilize a staff while walking in the woods, but not on city streets. A walking stick with any kind or design that has an attached items on it or is designed into it is interpreted to be a club by any court in the land; Thus illegal. Having a hook as canes do isn't. It's not ones own interpretaion of what is or isn't considered to be a weapon, it's the interpretaion of the police who arrest you which has to be determined in a court. IF and when one has to utilize any object to assist in there defence. NEVER EVER inform the police that you deliberately aimed for a spot in which you intended to kill them. That is considered to be 2nd degree murder. IF not when your questioned, you don't remember where or when you exactly hit them, you were in a distressful atlercation and simply reacted in a way in defending your self which lead to the ending it did. A cane can be carried any where, a walking stick can not.

In the UK we are not allowed to defend ourselves with anything other than stern words . Even then you might be arrested . Police here are not on the law abiding people's side . If I defended myself with my walking cane against a person or dog while walking my own small dog I would be in big trouble . Unless you are young strong or an mma fighter you can't defend yourself in this country. The Police won't be there for you .

Just think how many of us conservatives would visit Mexico if they didn't try to infringe upon our most basic of human rights (which we thought so much of that we codified it in our 2nd Amendment). Of course, that also prevents us from visiting many of the less constitutionally friendly places in the US like NY (and a good portion of the northeast). When I go out of the country, I carry a hickory cane / walking stick that I made out of a maul handle. I figure that if it can take the abuse of impacts from a maul or sledgehammer, it can easily take the lesser abuse of imparting kinetic energy upon someone who might have wish me harm. And I can even take it on aircraft since if any of the airport security people question me about it, I have a lot of scars to show them.
