Honestly yeah, i played space marine 1 in preparation for the game and was a lil nervous they were straying too far from it, as space marine 1 felt so close to perfect Still gonna hold my breath until i get my hands on it (i noticed you can roll spam, and not sure if youre invulnerable during executions, i really liked how you only have 1 roll, it really kept you stuck in the action and added to the weight of being a space marine, and also loved the feeling of committing to an execution with that risk and reward, having to look at the situation and decide when it was safe to get health was really engaging so hope they kept that in)

@@piedpiper1172 you roll once and there was a solid second where you couldn't roll again And i played on hard exclusively (the hardest one) and can definitely say it was intentional, there's a noticeable armor youre given (take slightly less damage) when in an execution, that being said couldn't swarm ya like these tyranid are doing, so MAYBE it was a necessary adjustment cuz you literally cant get an opening, we'll just have to see (would be cool as a difficulty modifier at the very least, like halo skulls or something)

Tbh, variety has always been one of Warhammer’s (all systems) greatest weaknesses. They’ll go on and on about how unique and varied say the different regiments of the Imperial Guard are, but then you’ll only ever see Cadians. Daemons and Tyranids are arguably worse since they’re both supposed to come in infinite variations, but they only have a handful of unique units that don’t even have many customization options.

Honestly, I've noticed that even in books, enemy variety is rough when it comes to Tyranids especially. Tyranids also don't make for particularly enthralling enemies considering a lack of any real narrative on their end. That being said, I'm stupid excited to just cleave through wave after wave of them.

If anything the big complaints were that later enemies were *too* varied for the game mechanics (IE Chaos Marines just dumping bullets into you when cover wasn't a thing) Imho the fix is just to have more factions, or make some original dudes. Or just use lots of the existing ones, Tyranids have like 40 ish units on the tabletop, maybe half that if you remove ones that would be too big for marines to fight alone.

Its a good sign when not everyone loves the fuck out of a game For example elden ring isn't even close to my favorite souls game, but i know its good, this video is similar, he's acknowledging that its good, but has things that dont personally appeal to him These critiques are what'll make the game peak for someone else and not so good for another, a huge red flag is when EVERYONE loves a game and has nothing bad to say about it (at least for me, cuz quad A naughty dog movie game that everyone hails as 10/10 life changing master pieces are by far my most hated games, and everyone seems to love them for some reason) i'd hate to see space marine 2 fall down this same path where its a game that tries to appeal to the masses and doesn't commit to a particular vision or have any soul cuz its just a product made for anyone and everyone

its basically the point of Tyranid to have the number and not a lot of enemy variety beyond the hive tyrant boss since you are infantry. the rest of the Tyranid roster are basically all nidzilla that normal infantry cant hope to deal with and dont appear in such limited environment as hive city or narrow corridor and required control of tank or dreadnought in a whole different game mode

Some of my biggest worries is that the gameplay depth will be more shallow than the -Tide series of games. Too, that the personalities won’t be as interesting (like Darktide, they’re just okay with rare cool lines) and that missions will feel few and repetitive. I love the tide games, an inherently repetitive genre. But at least there the combat feels like it has depth per weapon choice and class choice. That will invariably exist here, I’m hopeful that it’ll enthrall me in a similar manner. Unsurprisingly the pve is the most interesting part of this for me. But they need to keep adding missions, maps, mission modifiers, objectives, character (rpg) elements, and weapons to mess with and master

I agree for the most part. I've been looking forward to a good 40k title for a while now but something feels off when I see this game. The overall aesthetic is pretty much dead on and I love that but the "variety" and customization seems very selective, they will give you the option to customize the individual pieces of armor paint and insignia's but that's pretty much as far as it goes since you can't customize the skin to look like the salamanders skin tone or change the ultramarines insignia on the bulwark banner. Like ffs the space marines is like the golden child of GW when it comes to mini's and they give a near infinite variety customization on the mini's which is what people love to do. However I can see why they did this and it's cuz they want to sell cosmetic packs and I find that especially scummy they have payed skin packs planned in the beta and register it as "content" for future updates, since are payed skins "content"? Besides that the weapons are visual eye candy but the they lack "oomf" feeling you'd expect from firing them. I also noticed people have VERY high expectations that this game is suppose to replace/rival Helldivers 2 since currently that game is going through a crisis rn, my opinion is that unfortunately I don't think the PvE aspects of Space Marine 2 is gonna match HD2 since that game is a dedicated PvE coop hordeshooter with fleshed mechanics for that type of game, SM2 has to juggle between a story campaign, coop pve and pvp and expecting the game to be insanely good at all 3 is a bit of stretch and it ki d of shows already in the PvE because my bet is people will get hyped within the first month playing the PvE but after realizing there's essentially no endgame and nothing to progress in besides just playing harder difficulties with meme setups they'll get bored during content draughts and go play other games(funny enough this is exactly what's happening HD2 and that's actually why I hold this opinion) I could be dead wrong and they just magically disprove all my points here but I will wait patiently and not buy into hype

This is the second video Review in Progress I watch today that uses the Darktide soundtrack. As far as it is a really lackluster game that pains me so much on the wasted potential, Jesper Kyd's work is undeniably the BEST soundtrack for a 40k game and.. YES! IS BETTER THAN MECHANICHUS SOUNDTRACK!

As much as living the fantasy of a Space Marine is quite cool in and of itself (and the story and voice actors are good) I don't feel the game delivers a must-play experience. IMO a lot of little things kinda kinda kill the fantasy and makes the game feel meh, worst offender for me is the roll, a hulking 2.4 meters tall giant shouldn't be rolling like a dark souls character, it looks comical, immediately killed my immersion, they should have used a dash that could be used offensively (by turning it into a shoulder tackle or kick) or defensively instead of just slapping the dark souls roll on a space marine and calling it a day .. also I feel the gun sounds and footsteps fail to deliver the hefty weight and impact of Space Marines, you can feel it in something like Astartes fan film, don't feel it in the game at all. Not to mention from the gameplay I have seen (and I checked people who finished the game) that it lacks any epic memorable set-pieces that make it a unique experience, kinda like we used to get in games like Halo 1-3 .. every one of those games had epic battles, cool set-pieces and segments that change the gameplay significantly to create variety in the gameplay .. sadly I didn't see any of that here, so I guess it's a skip for me.

The campaign missions are pretty long and pretty high quality apart from like, one early mission. The pve operation mode, while also a few levels, is highly replayable with the progression system. The pvp mode, while not perfect, is pretty fun too. For me, especially since we’re getting quite a lot of content on the current roadmap, the price is fine since, at least for me, the quality of the gameplay is good.
