Here is a first look at my latest video. My parents came to town and I figured it might be a fun opportunity to make a video about Tesla's FSD.
I don't have the FSD package, but I did go ahead and get the one month subscription to make this video. Tesla has halved the price of the subscription to 100 dollars a month.
My dad is not a Tesla or Elon fan boy, so I thought this would be a good, unbiased review. I had my dad drive the car himself, with and without FSD activated. I also showed him how fast the car can accelerate.
I know not all of you are interested in Tesla, but I am sure some of you have no clue how to activate FSD and what that drive would actually look and feel like. I hope this is somewhat educational and also entertaining.
Thank you for supporting my channel.
My channel started as a way to keep people up to date on the world of SpaceX's Starlink, the satellite internet service. The channel has grown to include the broader Elon Musk universe.

I don't think too careful is an issue as long as it does not cause any accidents. ... What solves this is you doing work or playing computer games, once you don't have to supervise. So personally, when considering FSD I think we just need to worry about dangerous, NOT too timid. Thing is that everyone thinks they are the best driver in the world. You are NOT!! Get over it. FSD means no road rage, safer (more timid) driving whilst freeing up work/ leisure time. The benefits to elderly mobility are huge. If you continue to compare FSD to your own (I'm the best driver in the world) then it will never be ready because you are NOT the best arbiter of truth!

Exactly my reaction and hope. I am now 70, and am glad to see that it is extremely likely that FSD will be better than me at some point in the future, and will allow me to stay independent longer. We live in a great time. It is funny that the things they describe as negatives in the car's performance are also things that we make fun of in very cautious human drivers. So, the performance right now is probably better than a decent percentage of people driving legally on the road today.

FYI - Yes, you can have it park itself both in parallel and and parking lots. What is yet to come is "banish" - which is allowing the car to go find it's own parking slot after it drops you off at the front door of the store. Phantom breaking has not happened to me for several FSD Beta upgrades. I am now awaiting version 12.5x where it merges city and highway stacks into one and other upgrades. Good idea not to let your batter go to zero, but if that happens, you may still have about 20 miles to find resources. One of the main reasons I own a Tesla is because it is hands down the safest car on the road. Thank you for sharing this with your dad and with us. :)

@@ScifiNerdBKW I don't recall what versions I had during the free trial, but I used automated parking many times, and the versions were definitely no more recent than what you have. As you get into a parking lot, drive slowly, and it will show parking stalls with, I recall, a P, and sometimes a suggested parking spot highlighted in blue. Tap the desired parking spot, and then I forget the command to do it, but I recall it was quite obvious. Same with parallel parking. I had one issue with it regarding concrete parking stall barriers that were further out than the end of the stall, but I have the impression that's fixed, because although I no longer have FSD, I get a warning at the correct place now about needing to stop. So, it should be great now.

I have had FSD for 2 years. Currently on 12.3 version. Looks like skipping 12.4 and next upgrade will be 12.5 I often use FSD when I’d be fine driving myself but…since I bought it, I want to use it as much as possible to see what it’s going to do. It surprised me a couple of times by driving a different route than I’m familiar with but the alternative route saved time. We took a family trip from Vancouver Canada to Utah and used FSD 90% of the time. It was extremely useful in National Parks where we could drive slow and I could enjoy the views as much as my family. The eye scan is pretty weird…FSD knows when I’m looking away too long (for example not looking straight ahead). I’ve heard it can be defeated with sunglasses but I haven’t tried. On another note…we have HW3 and the current hardware is HW4 with HW5 coming sometime 2025 which is supposed to be 100x more powerful than HW3 😢. I would pay for a hardware upgrade if it was necessary to improve my FSD. I’m 64 years old and would like to stay mobile in my Tesla until I’m 100 so as I age, FSD will become more important.
@theodorehaskins3756
@theodorehaskins3756 2 ай бұрын
Wow! 100! That’s ambitious! So I’m 73, and retired, and I can still run around the block, and most of my contemporaries can’t, so I feel blessed, I can also still drive, which is another blessing. So I’ve had FSD since it’s inception when it was first initially offered back in 2019, and I bought in at 3K, watch it go to 15K, and now it’s been reduced to 8K, and of course you can opt in with a subscription for $99 a month, and obviously that can change, so we don’t know where the price will go in the future, however, I wouldn’t buy a car without it. So we don’t know what the price is going to be next year or the year after that, because the ultimate goal is to reach level 5 autonomous capability, and of course at that point there would be no need for a steering wheels or pedals, because you will no longer be driving a Tesla, as all Tesla cars in the future at that point will be manufactured without these devices because they’re not needed. So I would also expect that you will no longer be required to buy individual insurance like we do today as the company will take full liability for its product, and whatever the cost of insurance would have been, it would have to be absorbed by the manufacturer or included into your monthly cost or the purchase price, because you can always buy or pay cash for your vehicle, and so all those details will have to be worked out with the insurance companies, and other stakeholders, as required to include government regulators. So it is worthy of note, that this isn’t just some G-Wiz technology so that we can impress our families, and our friends, as this is about saving lives, because my car with FSD V12.3.6 has saved my life on more than a couple of occasions or at least, prevented me from getting myself into a crash with another vehicle, and so I feel really lucky, and blessed to be able to drive a car with this type of forward-looking technology. So something Ellie said that was not exactly true, is that V12.3 and on is not in beta anymore, it’s been labeled as FSD supervised, which is a slightly different connotation, because beta suggests that it’s in an experimental mode, and FSD supervised simply means that, it is no longer in an experimental environment, it only needs limited supervision, and that the software can reliably drive the car as good or better than the average human, and quite frankly that’s not a high bar as far as I am concerned, but it still needs a license driver to be in the driver seat, because the law has not changed on that issue. So unless, and until the law is changed, you cannot legally drive the car remotely without someone who is a licensed driver, sitting in the driver seat ready to take control if necessary. So the race to having a fully autonomous capable car is on, and although no one has demonstrated that capability at this time, I think that Tesla will be the first to get there, before anyone else, and although I’m not a betting person, but if I was, I’d put my money on Tesla to get there before anyone else. So I can imagine a future where no matter what kind of car you drive, its make or model, it will have Tesla’s technology inside, much like we used to see those TV commercials telling you that Intel is inside your computer. So I think that’s exactly what’s going to happen here because I think Tesla is ahead of everyone else, and maybe by 3 to 4 years or more. Cheers 🥂

An addendum to my comment regarding garage parking - I always back in to my garage because my Tesla has a rear camera and knows exactly when to stop backing. I also love that it triggers homelink (if activated ) and closes my garage door safely. Perhaps when they add a forward bumper camera, I will try pulling into the garage nose first, but I have for years always backed in to parking stalls because I think it is safer to pull out of the stall (or garage) when I have good visibility out of the front windows. When I back in, I have always visually surveyed that area before I do so I know it's clear. Carefully reading the release notes on each upgrade is a huge help in explaining what is going on. One question I have is when you have your Tesla's Drive Mode set to a certain level, does that make a difference with your FSD Beta? I suspect it does. I also really do love your audio when you are wearing your mic. It give perfectly clear sound and we hear no tire/road noise as happens when the mic (smartphone?) is used.

Like your dad, I drove stick shift for most of my driving until this century. I worked as a chauffeur during my college days, in a semi-automatic 1954 Chrysler Imperial with a safety clutch, and learned to be a cautious driver from the beginning. Too many of todays drivers only know two positions for the accelerator pedal, but to drive a stick without grinding the gears requires finesse. A stick shift also requires the right foot to do both the accelerator and the brake, which is safer than some bad drivers who are two footing the two pedals, the only way that they can weave through heavy traffic the way that they do. I bought my Tesla Model 3 as perhaps the last car I will ever need, and use FSD in both heavy Los Angeles traffic and on long boring cross county drives. Only around town where I prefer my style to the car's caution do I do most of the driving, but it is getting good enough for me to use more FSD each time there is an upgrade. Good video.

I just used FSD for a 4600 mile round trip across the US and had a couple of revelations with the current FSD. It seems to be very adaptive to user input without disconnecting. For example, as you show in your video, it may be hesitant at stop signs. However, you can use user input via pressure on the accelerator to give it input to go. Doing this, I can avoid those awkward pauses. Also, the same for passing cars when it wants to change lanes and then doesn't pass because the other vehicle speeds up. Pressing on the accelerator solves this. In summary, this FSD can be helped with your input.

I warned a couple teenagers last year when they were getting their driver licenses. New drivers today must adapt to new technologies as well as learning things the old fashioned manual way. They must drive like "test pilots," or as Ellie said, a driving instructor. Use the new technology, but evaluate it's performance critically in case it does something risky.

Great video! You have not gotten fsd because it is not yet near perfect, but I find it amazing for long trips, in construction, and in heavy traffic in strange cities, where I am uncertain about lanes and traffic patterns. I LOVE it now! I drive long distances to many cities for track meets.

12.5 is way better, really. I just got it 2 days ago. I hope you make another video after you get it. Turn on advanced in the software section so you will get it faster. It is running amazingly for me now. Also, it does not learn as you drive it, it learns as they collect data and update the neural net. It is driving just like you would be in a new area. Also, sunglasses make you have the nag in the 12.4 and 12.5 version. If it can see your eyes you don't have tough the wheel anymore. Also, this is a great video. I like you Dad and I see where you get your intelligence from. It seems like he really "gets "it. It's funny how so many people don't know how good the FSD really is. And if the battery dies, it ruins your day but not your battery. It has needed tesla to get it working again on very very rare occasions, but normally you just have to get to a charger and it will charge back up. Also it usually can go an extra 20 miles or so after it get to 0 from what I have seen in videos.

I got FSD when I bought my M3 2019 and have enjoyed being a beta user and was initially thrilled when it actually first stopped at a stop sign and have seen it get so much better. I am 71 now and still get excited with every update.😀🇨🇦. FYI. My summons work well.

Ellie I drove from Dallas to Bangor Maine and back. Over 5400 miles with no issues with charging. I found I like to take a break every 2-2.5 hours. If I charged at a 250k station it didn't take longer. 15-25 minutes

Alot of ppl complain to me that fsd is way too cautious. I dont think it is. Think about it this way, if im drunk and i cant drive, but my car can drive me home, i rather it be really cautions rather than not. My point is i rather the car be slow and get me home safe but i have that option that it can drive itself home. We’re not getting from humans driving to cars driving itself perfectly. In between i rather it be more cautious than less cautious when we know its not perfect yet. Also would you rather have it being really cautious but being able to drive you home or not being able to drive you home at all right?

when you are playing with your phone that super careful driving won't be be annoying at all. All you care is did it arrive safely not it took 5 extra min to get there since it's so careful. If anything it will only annoying people still driving themselfs behind you. For your dads information a model 3 perfromance pulls at about 0.9G(roughly).

Ellie, I'm new to your channel. Obviously I'm aware of you, how could anyone not notice you, you're gorgeous and very charismatic . I just watch too many channels. I saw your dad driving FSD it was very funny to see his responses to the tech. I own a 2021 FSD Model Y and will be selling to replace with the Juniper. Hopefully, the end of 2025, I'll have my Cybertruck , yay! Love Tesla and love you're promoting them in a realistic, unbiased, and articulate manner. Keep it up, gorgeous Ellie! Will be enjoying your channel

33:42 Ellie, I think "adaptability" would be a better word than "bravery" here. The thing is, your dad is old, but driven many cars in various stages of disrepair and what not. When I try to think how many cars I drove, it would be somewhere around thirty of my own during my lifetime (disregarding the one offs). You had to get used to various actions of pedals and adjust fast. So there is the advantage of being old - lot of "data" from previous vehicles, and that comes back fast. Like, I lived 13.5 years in Australia, and this was in four periods, obviously in the meantime I was driving in US or Europe on the right side, with one trip to UK on the left to top it up. And... it's amazing how fast one switches to left hand and then back to right hand driving again.
