Looking forward to work on the K/10. Those crowfoot wrenches are nice for fittings, but I find a set of angle open end wrenches are more useful. A set of plugs and caps to fit the fittings on the port and hose fittings are indespensible. They also make a protective hose sheathing will is good for chafe areas on hoses.

@EddieTheGrouch4 жыл бұрын
May I offer a suggestion? Locktite the rack screws. When they stretch and get jounced loose they strip threads. Better that they just bend a bit until you re-tighten them over time. Also, Gorilla tape is not much protection. Maybe a rubber tape like 3M rubber splicing tape (Home centers carry it), or better yet, appropriately size saddle type sway bar bushings. Cheers.

Often people are afraid of hydraulics thinking it's advanced and hard to work with. Well actually it's simple and pretty easy and safe to work with, and pretty much last forever. Sure things do eventually break, but if it's been well designed it's not something that will happen very often, and when it does it's often just a hose that sprung a leak. This can happen due to material fatigue, the rubber in the hose drying out or perhaps most often mechanical abrasion. The hose should not rub against anything as the machine goes through the entire range of articulation. Some times a mostly sound design can include stupid mistakes that simply doesn't make sense. My father discovered one of those in a boat engine. This boat used hydraulics to drive the prop so the motor could be mounted on very soft rubber mounts and it didn't have to be perfectly in line with the prop. This worked very well and without problems for over 20 years, but then one day they lost almost all power. The motor still ran but the prop barely turned. Naturally it happened the second week of my parents vacation when they were far from home. Now this was a sail boat so it wasn't a total catastrophe, but having a working motor is still very comforting. Well they got into a harbor and took things apart. What he found was a hose that had sprung a leak. He managed to find a local business that could make any length and type of hydraulic hose need, so problem solved, right? Wrong! Turns out the designer in a stroke of genius had constructed the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic oil reservoir as a single bolt on unit. The problem here was that the pump was a standard industrial unit that had been mounted inside the tank and the hydraulic lines passed though the tank and screwed into the pump. So you had to take the tank apart to get to the pump so you could switch out the leaking hose. Frustrating but not a fatal flaw, right? Sorry wrong again. For reasons unknown the tank was put together using interference fit so without a workshop with some good tools that tank wasn't coming apart any time soon. Now this is where the story could have ended but as my father and interested bystanders were looking at it someone took a long look, got a flash light and looked again, scratched his head and went hmm.... Turns out the external holes in the tank was perfectly in line with the hydraulic couplings on the pump. Some more head scratching and tools scrounging done they snipped the hose near the tank and turning the stump the managed to get it unscrewed from the pump. Then they took a piece of tubing, cut it to length and threaded it to fit the coupling. Screwing this into the pump they suddenly had easy access to attach the new hose. It was such a simple thing and though it probably newer was a problem for most owners it would have been so easy to avoid. Also I think it was strange that the designer thought that passing a hydraulic hose through the oil reservoir was a good idea. And then assembling that reservoir using interference fit? Sure it saved a few bolts, made it a little more compact and lighter, but at the cost of serviceability. Besides it added one point of abrasion to the hose. Now I wasn't there when it happened, and my father died a few years back so I can't be sure if that's where it broke or not, but it's just something I feel they should have avoided. Still, done right hydraulics are easy to work with, effective and very durable.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer4 жыл бұрын
Rubber failure is my guess...so this machine only has about 1200 hours on it....it sat for 10 plus years without oil circulating...so I'd anticipate more failures as I work the machine....but it's much cheaper than spending $55k on a new machine, also hose protection wraps have come so far in the past 10 years....on areas that get alot of friction I use cable protector wrap....it works awesome!
