If you are going to farm, it’s something that you have to really want to do. If you are not sure that it’s what you want to do then when the tractor breaks down or when it won’t rain then you will want to quit. If you are really wanting to do it then you will step over those hurdles and keep going.

Ive lived next to a rock quarry now for 45 years. Milked cows..... 10 years ago I switched to Stock cows. Often I see 13 to 15 coyotes right out side with in 50 yards of the calves / cows. To this day....Ive never had a coyote harm any calves ! I feel too often calves are sick....and the farmer dont monitor the calves. And.....over night a few coyotes can clean up ( an already dead ) calf ! Then the farmer blames it onto the coyote. Better option ???? Use a 22 lr rifle..... with sub-sonics ( quiet ) Shoot not to kill !!! The deer goes off.......and never returns. Good feed for the wildlife and nothing else is harmed . Work with the problem......dont place blame !

Sorry to hear about the ram and the lambs. If they have too big of an area avaliable to them then they also can headbutt harder (running, picking up speed). We have rams and ewes in different herds and when new ram is introduced in autumn to ram lambs into the ram herd, for couple of days we keep them in a smaller area in a barn. Then they dont have much space to gather speed and injure each other as much and can establish hierarchy a bit safer.

Hey there! I love your channel! I’m using a Greg Judy Bull on angus and Devon cows. It was more feasible for me to add value to some decent grass genetic cows with a south poll bull. Just sold my bull and going to look at another SP bull next week.

@@puresouthpasturesfarm6460 Alright, Thanks! How’d you find us? You just came up in my feed. We are running 3/4 SP cows with a SP bull from Reject Ranch. He’s a dandy, but I wish he gave us less bull calves. I’ll keep him on these girls and his daughters for a couple more years. They dropped some really nice calves for us. Pretty pleased so far. Why the bull change?

@@tickcreekranch nice! I found you guys quite a while back. Don’t remember how. Looks like if you don’t have it, you can make it. That’s a superpower skillset on the farm. I sold the bull because we’re retaining his heifers and they are getting old enough to breed this year. Looking at a bull that originally came from Bruce Shanks place.

@@puresouthpasturesfarm6460it’s definitely an advantage to have construction skills on a ranch no doubt. Put a lot of emphasis and value on trade skills. We might not be the sharpest bunch, but we can build stuff lol. In another note, I don’t know what your water situation is, but my animals have considerably better condition when I keep water really close even compared to just a few hundred yards. I must have lazy cattle. We’ve been using a mobile water trailer set up. So far it’s working really good. Their relative intake increased noticeably. Keep it up, you’re animals are looking good👍

Hi Pure South, I just found your channel as a recommended one, and coincidentally, I'm in NW Arkansas. Your emphasis on the romanticism of farming really resonates with me. I have personally witnessed it when I was married to a beef/hay grower. Now that I'm divorced and starting over, I want to give it a try on a smaller scale for personal consumption. I have a couple of acres that I'm planning to raise sheep. I'm interested in finding locally bred sheep that are known for their good health and won't require significant adaptation to a new region. Do you happen to sell sheep at any time? Additionally, I'll also be in need of a reliable livestock dog.

Hey there! Thanks for watching and commenting. Love having fellow Arkansans on the channel. I don’t have any available because I’m trying to grow our sheep flock. I’m holding all the ewes. Have our poked on the hair sheep Facebook groups?
