I love it when you bring your in-laws to visit and share their history and family stories with us! Thank you! Julie, you are a wonderful interviewer, and I appreciate the Earl’s willingness to give us a peek into some of his wonderful memories.

No not at all. I think William will definitely bring back all the grandeur. Charles has always been more modern of the 60-70's. William grew up with more tradition and when it was considered popular to be more traditional and classic. In fact I think King Charles is going to allow people to wear their tiaras after all. I hope they do.😊

@@MissSilencedogood Extremely and I mean extremely doubtful that William will do such a thing. He has the personality of a rock, if anyone is honest. Charles, out of anyone, would have been the likeliest person to go full 'glam' if you will. He decided not to do it so there is no way that William will. Charles has a huge interest in history, art, culture, historic conservation etc whereas William has idk no real interests that we know of aside from helicopters. He's the last person who would do it.

I loved hearing his memories of the 1953 coronation. The impressions of a 10-year-old are so much different, and not jaded by the pomp! Bringing out the 1936 program was a terrific memory trigger! So funny how he said he just kept talking when he met the Queen later! Keep recording his memories! They are valuable, and we love hearing them. Luke is so lucky to be able to have these. The queen wrote in her diary about the day in 1936, about what the abbey looked etc, and how wonderful her parents looked,

The Countess would have worn a tiara to the coronation and she would have placed her coronet on her head simultaneously with all of the peers and peeresses when the monarch was crowned. As I understand it, the peeresses’ coronets were small so that they could tuck behind their tiaras. I’m a brand new subscriber so I’m not sure if you’ve ever discussed or shown the family tiara(s). Many peers were photographed in their coronation finery. Perhaps there are such pictures of your father-in-law’s parents or grandparents. All the best from Canada!

@@nutti2you380 I think they probably are paying. There was a ballot and all the peers could put their names forward to be picked. In 1953 the Coronation was much bigger, there were 8,000 in the Abbey, despite Britain being poor after WW2. However the country was more pro monarchy. Today, there's a small but very vocal anti monarchy group, who've made their views known on social media. There's also those who blame Charles & Camilla for the break up of Charles first marriage, though I think this is unfair, Diana was equally at fault. For all these reasons, I think Charles has decided this occasion should be more scaled back .

Thank you and the Earl so much for this video. I’m so impressed to see how he embraces the changes to the coronation, and the decision to broaden the guest list to include more of the people working in non-profits/charities. Unfortunately, there isn’t room in the Abbey for all the peers (since seating is reduced this time around and the guest list broadened). Though, I must admit, if any peer deserves to be present at the coronation, it’s the Earl of Sandwich.

Please, please, please---contact a textile and document expert for directions on how to preserve these precious items. Please, wear cotton gloves when handling these items to avoid transferring oils from your skin. These are just beautiful and I am so happy for you and look forward to following your journey!

Current archivist protocol is not to wear cotton or latex gloves when handling textiles or books. It is recognised that wearing them reduces the sense of touch and more damage is likely

To all those who are missing the dress up party they think the Coronation should be, please remember that once upon a time these robes were the height of fashion and were therefore totally appropriate. Breeches and silk stockings are symbols of antiquity and I find it refreshing that this will be a Coronation of the times, not a nostalgia show. It is a religious ceremony, not a dress up party

I just found your channel and I’m so happy!! It was awful when your show on Smithsonian was cancelled. It was so interesting and beautifully done. I’m binging your videos now while I crochet and I’m loving every single one. Your passion is contagious. So good to see you again. 🥰
