You are experiencing things in India that I have taken for granted. Its been almost 3 or more years since I used an auto- rickshaw, never petted a cow or taken a look at the dogs I see on the streets everyday, and I eat cereal for breakfast! I failed to appreciate the uniqueness of my country because of my westernized mindset.

Drash A this is the reason I watch these vlogs. It's really interesting to see same things from different perspective and from other's eyes.

I think there is nothing wrong in being a little western. You cannot expect them to appreciate our culture if don't appreciate their's.However thinking of one culture being inferior is other is wrong. There are somethings we are better at and in others they are.

About that lemon and chili thing.. somewhere i read that it is kind of a first aid kit used in ancient times. India is hot place so people used to keep lemons tied outside their houses so that if any traveler is suffering from sun stroke or headache then lemons can be helpful. Snake n scorpion bites are frequent so to detect the neurotoxins people can use chili as it is said that people will loose the taste ability in case of snake bite. Then there is a piece of coal at the bottom which can be used to write a msg or something and the piece of copper wire can be used to remove any thorn from feet... addition to this there will be few more items according to the surrounding regions..

julie ross It's chaotic in monsoon season in India and July & August is worst. I really hope that you have planned your journey properly. Due to rain their will be delays in train and flights. Cities sometimes get water clogged. Don't eat any street food and make sure to have only bottled water during the period. Be prepared as much as you can. I would suggest if you can postponed your tour to mid October or November as weather gets better and you won't feel the heat.

The chilly and lime is for specific purpose. In olden days it used to take days to travel, or the nearest medical help was far away from where you reside. The chilly and lemon acted in two ways. One is, it kept away insects and flies (threading it releases the juice over time) and other for medical reason. It was the first thing used to diagnose whether snake bite is poisonous or not. Chilly was asked to be chewed if it was poisonous snake you could not feel the heat of the chilly. It was also applied crushed with lime as first aid. Lime with water also acts as a good remedy for dehydration and keeps stomach aliments away.
