Love these caravans. Had a sprite when I was a kid and we had a Monza back in the 90s. Brilliant caravan. Nice and lightweight to.

Great video. Seeing the gas lamp in the sprite reminded me of my first holiday in a caravan. Mum took me and my brother to Dennis's camp near Filey . The smell of gas when the lamps were lit was very strong and mum worried all week that we were going to get poisoned .I loved the Holiday even though there wasn't much to do on the camp apart from a few slot machines and the song "west of the wall" seemed to be played over and over.

Great memory Andy, those gas lamps do have a certain smell! Perfectly okay to use though, they just don’t meet current safety standards and a 12v light is much cheaper to run!

Spooky gas lights. We were all shoehorned into an elderly Sprite 400. It also had gas lighting. For fear we'd all be gassed, come bedtime, my Mum insisted Dad "turn it off at the bottle !" So out Dad used to trek in his PJs... It was an old van then but oddly my parents married it up with a brand new and then expensive Isabella (?) awning :-) One hot Summer in Tenby, they once squeezed 9 of us in there ...

Really looking forward to seeing more videos on these too. I'm currently looking for an original 80s caravan like your monza, so it's really good to see you covering it in the videos. Keep the videos coming 👏

Beautiful caravans indeed. The Sprite sort of reminds me of my first time in a caravan. That was the summer of 1971. I have no idea what brand it was, but it was about that same size and spec. I do know it was not a Shasta, but that's all I can remember. I do remember it being a bit cozy for my great aunt and uncle, my grandmother, and 10 year old me. Uncle Stewart was a Stationary Engineer, so believed in overkill. Their car, a 9171 Ford Custom 500 sedan was rated for 5,000 pounds.

Great video Cameron. Looking forward to this series, we had Sprites in the late 80's and early 90's. Wonderful memories 🙂

Wow Cameron, I really enjoyed the insight to these two beauties. I especially enjoyed the Musketeer segment as it brought back so many amazing childhood memories caravanning with my folks with our 1978 Musketeer back in South Africa 😃 Cannot wait for the projects to be posted here.

Thanks Brad, glad you enjoyed it. The Sprite has really transformed since this video, I can’t wait to share it!

I can imagine the conversation at the design bureau. "We'll make the most of the space but this will give it the aerodynamics of a cinder block". "Then we'll just call it the Sleek Line, Aeorolite or Slipstream".

Great video Cameron, looking forward to more updates, completely agree on the appeal of a more simplistic approach to Caravanning…ps great shirt btw!

The bunk for the Sprite would be one of those scafolding poles and nylon bunks we have one going spare from the 1970s in loft if you get in touch .Can't help with transport though as dad's died and I inherited his car a Chevy Spark .

Good to see you back. Have to say the Monza has more appeal for longer trips away and servicing etc. I think that step forward would stop non classic fans from finding it a bit too close to nature. I can see me ending up with a van to match every era of Tow car which may be dangerous 🤣
@NotAnotherWhiteBox3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan, it’s good to be back! Yes I get the appeal of the Monza, being a little bit more familiar to us with its few mod cons. I want to encourage more people to take on these “danger classics” from the 1980s that are on the cusp of being bonafide classics but still easily obtained cheaply so often don’t have a very positive fate

Brilliant video, will keep watching! Have a 1987 Renault Trafic Autosleeper campervan (in Renault 170 paint code beige with original AS decals) so I also get the 80s vibe, her D reg means she's probably rarer than either of the vans in the video as out of 43 made that year only 3 are still on the road

Hi Cameron, Thanks. Two wonderful finds and good to hear that they're both in quite serviceable condition too. There's something honest about the Musketeer isn't there ? Did I imagine it but didn't it's bigger Sprite Major brother come with a large roof light over the front area?
@NotAnotherWhiteBox2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, glad you’ve been enjoying my videos! Thanks for the kind comments. Yes, the larger Sprite Major has a skylight at the front. Without giving too much away, there might be one coming to this channel later in the year 🤫😂

The Monza does seem a big leap forward in terms of kit. And I do love a double dinette. But the Sprite is very versatile layout wise. In 82 I’d have been 6 yrs old.
@NotAnotherWhiteBox3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to pick one over the other. The Sprite has so much more character and space inside but the Monza is really practical

Hi Cameron your Channel and videos are great such extensive knowledge of the Classic Era of Caravanning, have had two Vanroyces and getting a 1964 Safari this weekend which needs a bit of tlc - may need to get in touch for some of your expert knowledge -really struggling to get any info off the internet regarding Safaris think its a 17/4 which is pretty big for the year and has end kitchen double benchs at the front and another long bench behind. Will keep you posted once collected! can send pics if you would like to see? regards Steve and Kevin

Thanks for your lovely comment Steve and Kevin, I think I saw that Safari on eBay recently? Glad to know it’s found a good home. If you need any advice about it, let me know. I used to have an identically styled Safari 15/4 that I fully restored.

Do you have another channel where you restore your vintage caravans? I don’t really see any restoration videos of these or other models being restored.
