I have a feeling this will get to the point where they will sue under the Interstate Commerce Act. Likely the Feds will have to step in (commerce)m primarily Congress. Yep, truckers boycott California we will all pay in the beginning because of the goods that come from the ports, but the rest of California will hurt desperately before the rest of the country. I'm willing to take that pain to shut them down. You talk to Californians and they seem to think having the world's 6th largest economy means something. It doesn't mean squat if you can't move goods to the rest of the Nation. I'm sure Canada and Mexico would love for goods to come through their ports to get to the rest of the US. More money for them. Where is that 6th largest economy going to be then?

My neighbor is one of the power distribution engineers for the TVA in Tennessee and he is in these meetings and conferences all around the country where they are discussing how to adapt the power grid and increase generation capacity to meet these needs. He told me he just came from one where they told everyone that TVA is all done building infrastructure for “potential and future” demands because they have been burned too many times when it doesn’t materialize. Most recently was Facebook saying they needed 400 megawatts for a new data center they were going to build, so TVA spent millions of dollars on capacity and distribution equipment and they end up using less than 20 megawatts. So now their position is that if you want to put in a hundred or even a thousand charging stations then go ahead, once we see the actual demand we will upgrade to supply it but not before. So this pipe dream of forcing a rapid shift to EV’s is just that, a pipe dream. Just back off and let the market drive the transition and accept the reality that EV’s are not a universal replacement in all applications and in all areas.

If American truck drivers and transport companies did the same this madness would stop. The electric big rigs will still have the same GTW and axle load limits, but because the tractor will weigh ten tons more than an equivalent diesel tractor, more trucks will be required to deliver the same payload. The additional capital required for more trucks will be passed on to the consumer in the form of higher shipping costs.

I was in the transportation field for 25 years i dealt with truck drivers, trucking companies and the like. They have to go through a lot to make a buck time is their enemy. A average tractor and trailer with a 45,000 payload weighs 80,000 pounds do you expect a electric powered vehicle to pull that amount weight efficiently. No way they will spend more time recharging then driving. For now diesel powered tractors are the only way.
