Re-assembled villages: If you ever go to Japan, and have enough time to go to a lesser visited place, I know of another such recreated old village. It’s called Shikoku Mura (Shikoku Village in English). They’ve brought together old buildings from around the island, including an outdoor amphitheater, a suspension rope bridge, etc. It’s on the island of Shikoku, on the outskirts of Takamatsu city, near the foot of Yashima. There are other interesting things to see on the island too, though few foreigners know about them.

The Living History Museums are a great benefit! The Weald and Downland Museum in the UK is great, and there's one near me in the US, with people dressed in costume and pretending to be in a certain time period. PS - A well-made corset is actually very comfortable. The "tight lacing" practiced by a few people of the Victorian era is the only bad corsetry I know of.

My grandmother died of peritonitis from wearing a corset. The amount of pressure from fashion and the corset were very very bad for the health and caused alot of organ infections. This was designed by the male designers who had no clue about the health of women I mean look at the hoop skirts they wore. So a skinny waist and then huge below that . Its amazing what dedicated followers of fashion will do to be in style. (I studied costume history).

NO NO No ... please do not fall into the trope of corsets and stays being uncomfortable!!! Yes there are corset wearers that tie their corsets really really tight and it is some sort of fetish for them. However, over centuries women worked in stays and corsets. I have been wearing corsets & stays for days and days on end on living history events (at open air museums etc.) and if they are made to your measurements, they are more comfortable than some of the modern bustiers and bras you can buy today. I usually wear Regency stays in normal life, too, because they are so damn comfortable and are better than any push-up bras. Loved the talk :)
@notquiteachateaudiy2 жыл бұрын

Ahahahaha I think the idea was, during the Victorian era, a woman's waist was supposed to be small enough for a man to put his two hands around! 😶 I love your friendship. You could ask for questions Jane, before hand and then your Premiere is about the answers. Could be easier and is usually more fluid and less chaotic. Billy Petherick does them that way. Ahahahaha Tony puts everyone to shame. My maternal grandmother used to celebrate May with lilies of the valley; turns out as legend goes King Charles IX was given a small bouquet and was so touched he decided to start the tradition.
@notquiteachateaudiy2 жыл бұрын
That's a really good idea MaryJane, might make a premiere easier, thanks for the extra info on the Lily of the valley tradition xx
