We are Tony and Jane and we are living in and renovating our old Relais De Poste/Coaching Inn.
We live in the middle of France in a region called The Berry.
We have over 40 rooms to renovate so there is plenty of work to be done. We also love to trawl the local Brocantes, flea markets and antique shops for quirky furnishings and furniture.
We love to find out about local history and often visit other peoples buildings including our friends’ Chateaux.

Jane, I know bats are great for eating mosquitoes however you can get a terrible disease, histoplasmosis, from breathing in dried bat guano dust. I would be very cautious of allowing bats to live anywhere you possibly could be walking. The roof looks wonderful, so glad you got it completed before the torrential rains.

Good morning Jane, the tilers have done a beautiful work on the roof. That roof is now secure and I am sure with the storms that has been hitting France that will stand a weather beating. That is a great relief, and then the other section will be done later. It looks fabulous. So when Tony is ready, he can start the inside project at his leisure. This reminds us just how close you are to your neighbours. I am glad you have the roofer to do the work maybe refer them to Patrick and Stuart they need their roof done. As I have said before maybe refinish those finials. The new door is great Tony :) I hope the water has receded more now and less worry for your community.

It's difficult to keep him away Susie, especially when there's big boys toys and scaffold around, but he was working on the Bread Oven project at the time. He did add his final touch to those lucernes (roof windows) though and yes it's the cherry as you say x

Normally, I love the look of slate roof tiles but I was very pleased to see that you stuck with the terra-cotta tiles similar to what you had previously. Especially the pointy ridge tiles, they give the place so much character! 😊 PS if there is any way for you to keep the bats out, I would do it. Their guano really stinks after a while. Ask me how I know! 🤢

With all the flood drama, I forgot that half your property has no roof!!! Good to know that by work is progressing. I wanted to ask-does this project protect all the remaining properties? (I know the bread oven/tower is separate). I love watching you and Tony make such progress on the houses and barns. I can’t wait to see the renovations on the worse house that has the most history. I hope to visit you all one day.

Hi Janet, yes it's all been a bit soggy round here LOL. This was the side house roof, we are working our way around the houses to get the roofs replaced, next step is the back of the front part of the side house, then we are having some quotes for the next steps, which we will have to wait around 3 years for the work! gives us time to save up though xx

Yes Francis, all the front guttering and downpipes were replaced and new guttering and downpipes were added at the back as there weren't any before!
