I wouldn't like to say how many times I have been to Ullapool, but I don't believe that I have spent a single night behind bricks and mortar. Once, I stayed on the campsite at the end of the road along the harbour front. I heeded the weather warnings and pitched my little tent by the fence by the back of the site, with my car on the windward side. Many people did not and pitched along the beach. A storm blew in and I had a rough night, but I stayed dry. The following morning the storm had abated, but the site was littered with the remains of wrecked tents like the aftermath of Glastonbury Festival. I don't know why but I listened to your video and thought of Tom Weir. I always really enjoyed his programmes so I think that is praise.

Ah, Tom Weir. He was a great friend and a mentor to me for many years. Still miss him and his wisdom.

Have you tried the wee aire at Kirkcudbright swimming pool? Stayed there last weekend....mint. £10 for the night and the proceeds go to the pool. First come first served. You've got water and waste only for £4. Can't argue with that. 😁

Not a bad place to stay for the night. I've never seen Ullapool look so good Cameron the colours were so vibrant on your video.

Great wee video Cameron, did you see any adders on the hill walk ? On my last walk up there I meet three on the path . Love Ullapool, I didn’t know about the Royal for campers. Must give it a try. Thanks for sharing. ATB

After travelling through the clag and mist all the way from Dingwall, the clouds lifted and the sun came out as we came over the hill into Ullapool. The skies stayed blue and the sun shone for the next two weeks while we toured the Outer Hebrides. The campsite at Ullapool was good and inexpensive and the local chip shop was excellent. I'm not sure how our dogs would like being so near to other campers in the hotel car park which is a shame because I like being close to a bar.

Glad to see you both brought your sticks. I'm mystified as to why it's known as Aleppo Hill though; did the Syrians colonise it originally?

Hi Cameron, Great vlog! We stayed there recently and received a very friendly and hospitable welcome. Unfortunately the food we were served to put simply wasn't very good and was quite pricey. I did mention this to the staff and they were very disappointed and invited us back in the future to give them a chance to put things right. Otherwise though it is a great asset to Ullapool that there is somewhere else to pitch up.
