I reside in the Netherlands but was happy when my boss sent me to Columbus, OH for installation and commissioning of a line. It took us 8 weeks and that gave me the chance to visit the museum twice. First time I spent 2 days in the museum, second time I had another full day there. They have so many amazing aircraft, and also a lot of very rare ones like the X-15, XB-70 Valkyrie, and also the YF-23, which looks (and apparantely also performs) way better than the F-22. It has become one of my favorite museums in the States, besides the legendary Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. I have huge respect for the people that keep these museums in great shape and make sure the beautiful past of aviation is not forgotten!

Tech Adams, as a repeat visitor to this, my favorite aviation museum in the world (even more than the Smithsonian-and that's saying something), let me congratulate you on a great promotional video. You hit everything. I was lucky enough to go through the restoration area, and that was one of the most interesting things I've ever seen.

The new hangar is built, and was opened last year. The Presidential Airliner Gallery is part of it, as well as many of the aircraft that were formerly displayed outside. Oh, and coming soon, The Memphis Belle. The first B-17 Bomber to complete 25 missions over Germany. She's almost fully restored to her original Glory and goes on display in 2018.

I live about 40 minutes away. I go there several times a year and there is always something new. The 4th hanger is coming along nicely and will open in 2016. It will essentially be full right from the outset and a 5th hanger will have to happen at some point. Its well worth the drive to visit this wonderful museum. The Doolittle Raiders have their goblets on display there. They have been a very moving display. I have went back to see several of them had been turned over as members passed away.

I live about an hour south and don’t visit nearly often enough. This last weekend, I went for the first time in about 10 years. The new hanger is awesome! I only made it through about half of the museum in a day, and that was just looking at the airplanes and not stopping to read or watch the videos for all the other displays. This place is a true gem. The history behind some of the planes is incredible, such as the Air Force One that flew back JFK’s body and LBJ was sworn in on...and you can walk through it.

I went TDY to Wright Patterson AFB back in 1992 for a class at AFIT. During the week I was there, I spent as many hours at the Museum as I could. It looks like things have changed a bit in the last 25 years . . . . The National Museum of the USAF is one of the three pilgrimage sites I want to visit before I die. Obviously, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum is another. I've recently added the Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola as the third.

I got to visit this when I was in my early teens, it is a great museum, the most incredible thing to me at the time was the size of the largest bombers, I couldn't believe something as enormous as the b36 was built just a few years after WWII, that thing was incredibly massive and they had an old fashioned nuclear bomb from the era displayed next to the b36, those early nukes seem so huge compared to what came later

Dad used to take me there twice a year as a kid. When I became an adult, I'd take him. Every time we went, we learned something new. We would focus on one aspect of flight each time, like engine development or construction techniques. Dad never took me to Disney, but we went to the Smithsonian, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain and Wild Turkey Distillery to name a few places. His Dad accompanied us while he was able. I feel sorry for kids who spent all summer at the beach every year. They don't know what they missed. BTW Dad was a former Marine, so I didn't miss out on beaches, either. I just learned to open my eyes wider.

My dad was a refugee that built a boat. He told me he was in the medical field, mom said she did government paper work before they got here... I havent communicated w/ them in several yrs but he did create alot of memories for my bro & i. Sometimes I think I might accidently come across them on yt 🙈.They didn't want me going out much, but when we did. We really did 😁. .. it kinda circled around alotta science & math tho, I guess. He always did want me to be involved in the medical field or computers but yeahNo... I have some resentment, sure. But I still remember... He was really good at buliding things. I'll give him that. Admirable enough. ..

Here's a two notes for your museum: 1. During WW2, days our air force bombed targets that had no military significance in Europe were referred to by pilots as, "Women & children days." 2. Likewise during that war; Curtis LeMay is known to have said, with respect to the near genocidal level of inhumane and criminal fire bombing of cities in Japan (paraphrase), " I suppose if I had lost the war, I would have been tried as a war criminal ...."

Holy shit... your favourite planes are the SR-81 blackbird and the A-10 warthog? Are you me? If we could find some way to combine those two, well we might as well drop those nukes because we won't need anything else. Ever. Like, the warthog is designed to be a flying gattling gun that can say airborne with only one wing and the SR-71 blackbird is designed to outrun missiles. OUTRUN MISSILES.

i always wondering, this airplanes are in flight conditions or are just like placeholder(just to look good in the museum)?
@TechLaboratories8 жыл бұрын
They're taken out of flight condition after being flown to the museum. They have to bleed out all of the lubricants and fuels, and prepare things like the hydraulics to work without being hooked up to a power source or hydraulic pump. Some planes come damaged and the restorations don't make them flight worthy, simply putting them back to as close to original-looking condition as possible (even if a few parts have to be remade), though they do try as much as possible (at least, this one does) to use the same or similar materials and techniques to make the parts - they just aren't certified to do that.

A museum of aircraft, or of flight, is not a truthful museum of the Air Force. A museum of the US Air Force would have a vast exhibition area on murder, mayhem, war crime, and civilian death. It would have a vast accounting of the wasted money and misdirected engineering talent blown on boondoggles like aircraft designed to carry single 25 megaton bombs. It would have a continuously running movie of Curtis LeMay admitting (with respect to our criminal burning of Japanese cities) that, "If we were to lose this war, we are going to jail for war crimes." You go TechLab, nice work, not.

It's not "central" Ohio, it's southwest Ohio. I was born and raised 2 miles from this place. My daughter was born at Wright-Patt, my uncle was the Director of Exhibits there for 20 years and I used to live at this place growing up. That "warhead" was not a warhead, but an actual gravity bomb. It said so on the placard. Did you not even review the footage before you did the voice-overs? For a tech guy, you're not very technical. And there's lots to do in Ohio. Even Dayton.
