Great video. Would like to see more about the port config specially on the 10 GB ones. In my case, I need one for LAN together with the other 4 1 GB and the other 10 GB for Internet

Nice device, love the 10Gig at the router level. Can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I my EdgeRouter 6P my have to concede to this guy in my next home. Question - didn’t see a way to disable WiFi completely. Is this possible? I’m thinking in terms of it being the headend router for a Unifi or Grandstream set of hardwired APs.

The IP used in the QVPN settings are part of RFC 2544 and not used in the public. This is a benchmarking set that can be used. Using this range allows the QNAP to make sure that it does not have a conflict with any of the private IP Ranges.

Any idea on the WiFI Square foot coverage? I checked all around and can't find anything. Good video..thanks.

Would like this router for the 10G WAN interfaces only if I could put Pfsense on it. Hmm sound like a good project for me. Thanks!

I usually activate mac cloning in my routers so by changing a character I can reset my IP with comcast. Can you do that with this router?

Do you have any Synology NAS with 10Gb around, and a laptop with Wifi 6? How are the data transfer rates between those 2? Considering buying this router, but kinda bummed by some online reviews saying the software is limiting, doesn't allow some simple stuff as jumbo frames, etc...

It looks like 192.18.2.x is owned by Oracle. That is VERY interesting and I would curious what Qnap has to say about that.
@DJEvergreen

I wonder if that was a qnap error and it should've been 192.168.2.x

Nah, they're not. The idea of parrental controlls is essentially ruleset for firewall, that applies to specific hosts based off of some identifier, usually MAC address. TP-Link has similar approach to this.

Only when you showed the back did I realise the 10Gbps ports are Ethernet, not SFP+ as I had assumed. That’s disappointing and inconvenient for my situation…
@Zizzily
@Zizzily 3 жыл бұрын
As a very small niggle for me, SFP+ and fiber are still Ethernet, unless you're doing something like InfiniBand. For copper, BASE-T or just -T is what I see used. In 10GBASE-T, the T is for Twisted pair. MMF is usually -SR for Short Range and SMF is -LR for long range.

I think there is a small gap in the market, somewhere more advanced than an Eero etc., but simpler than UniFi. I was hoping Synology would fill the void. Looks like this is an attempt but doesn’t seem to hit the mark.

I understand QNAP are going to release a Mesh wifi soon. I am expecting this to support and control them. I am looking at this with interest, as I could use the 2x10g ports.

But for $379+ i'd expect a bit more; significantly better cooling, load balancing, mini pci-e wifi card slot, isolated power supply, Wifi 7 (802.11be), link aggregation, etc.

Looks promising, but still lack a lot of features. Parental controls are not enough to fulfill needs of most families (and businesses - maybe they should label this "web browsing control" or similar to broaden the scope). It seems to be more a minimum viable product than a minimum awesome product.

you should always use public DNS servers instead of ISP DNS servers which are a) unreliable; b) unsecure (meaning your ISP logs your traffic).

No SNMP or Netflow support makes this little more than a fancy consumer router. A disappointment overall.
@robcowart
@robcowart 2 жыл бұрын
@@WillieHowe No. I would never try to deploy this as it has no observability features, specifically no support for SNMP or Netflow. You made a comment that this was an "enterprise router". Without any observability options, it is definitely not "enterprise", and arguably not even "prosumer".

Not honestly very impressed with it. It seems to be a typical "HOME" device. Here... we have the Fritz!Box and that seems to offer just as much as this device (only not the 10Gbit ports). The 10Gbit ports are nice, but the rest is honestly NOT very impressive!!

Agree, this Qnap router seems like a very basic home router. Looked at Fritz! but I'm sticking to Draytek which has more prosumer functionality like policy based routing etc
@SuperBrigader
@SuperBrigader 3 жыл бұрын
I'm using a frit box and it has some very nice features parent controls with times and even extra tickets that a parent can give for extra time if required. Etc PABX etc, had a draytek, that was good, but upgraded to Fritz at the time as I wanted AC wireless at the time and 5ghz (Longtime ago), now looks like I might go for this, as it would work nice with my TS877 QNAP NAS, with the 10gig ports.... Will wait for the mesh Qnap WIFI that i expect to work with this. I'll watch this space ;-) But think this will be the only router for SOHO /SMB for 10g ports for a longtime . Might just buy a 10gig switch, but see this as a relatively cheap 10gig upgrade for now between my pc and server, and not have them directly attached.
