Great video. Around here (Europe) slip joints are essential to be able to carry a proper tool. I wish people could carry a proper locking and one hand opening blade legally but that's just not the case for most countries (Sweden is an exception, no hard set rules here). These kind of modern slip joints (LionSteel, Spyderco, Benchmade, Hinderer and so on) makes carrying a proper tool much easier. Not to mention that they take care of at least 95% of daily usage for most people without a problem. I've been using knives for over 30 years, a lot of slip joints and I've cut myself bad enough to draw blood once and that was on a fixed blade. Keep up the good work!

Either they are out, or they don't offer it any longer. I love my benchmades too. D2 in one and in 58-61C in the other. I know the D2 seems pretty tough to sharpen but holds an edge a smidge better than the 58-61C. I had to go look up the steel on my barrage ha ha. The bestman has the 'look' of the old timey. Thanks for covering this knife. I hope Ridge stocks them or shows the future availability soon. Keeping my eyes peeled.

Gentleman Knives are more often two handed knives and used as the category suggests in formal situations. Which is why it has to be less intimidating or friendlier looking (sic). The knife has to be quiet, aesthetically appropriate, yet functional for these occasions. There are models specifically designed and used for cutting away part of the cap or flag leaf of a cigar. Other models are for dining. In some restaurants in Aubrac it is even the norm not to place any steak knives on the table, as the guests are expected to whip out their own Laguiole knife. Other high quality brands such as Forge de Laguiole, Fontenille Pataud and Laguiole en Aubracare are all directed at a dining experience and a stout reflection on traditions and local pride. Which would explain why some knives seem odd. Once you research the area these knives come from and the culture. Then things start to make sense. Laws play an important role as well and some places are insanely strict on what is legal. I ordered a Fällkniven Gentleman and my next purchase is a NotoriousEDC KINGPIN Gentleman knife.

The S90V blade on my Proper has better edge retention and wear resistance than M390, and that's another aspect the Benchmade is better at. Love your channel.

I always say that I use my 0562 or Para 3 when I want to cut something, but I use a slipjoint when I want to use a knife. Most of my knives are slipjoints these days.

My Bestman double blade is on it's way! Really dig the old school look and feel of a slipjoint and micarta is always a welcome addition. Side note, your brass Zippo I ordered just came in and it's a beaut! I have the torch insert in most of my Zippos, but I think I'll keep the ol flint in the Siers edition so we can fire up a cigar with lighter fluid without shame. Haha cheers brother!

Great review - the LionSteel is a great looking, well made knife Growing up using the Buck 110, I am more comfortable with a solid, well made knife at a lower price point While the BestMan 2 seems to be great knife, I'm not sure I would be comfortable using a $100+ knife as a workhorse in my EDC - I would be concerned every time I pulled it out to use it
