Nice review! Good to know it’s glitchy on 2016 Cadillacs. I’m not really sure the extra features would be any more useful to me than the standalone dongles are. The CPLAY2air works surprisingly well in my ELR, and you’re right that the software updates have helped. The only strange thing I notice is it’ll occasionally keep playing audio for a few seconds after the car is turned off and the door is opened. It does eventually shut off, though. (Crazy to see what a ripoff of CarPlay the Android UI is!)

I was wondering if your video could be the solution to my problem: I have a 2017 Mazda Miata and recently the Infotainment system went bonkers. Though I can receive stations, it no longer remembers my FAVORITES. Also, the system seems to have a mind of its own since it will change screens without me touching the screen or navigation knobs. When that happens, my USB mp3 player stops playing so the only audio I can get is from the last FM station I requested. Mazda refuses to make good on this since it is out of warranty and told me I have to replace it (around $1,500!). So my question to you is the Android Auto dongle that you suggested in your video even an option for me? Thanks, Dan

Maybe google assistant is not able to hear you cause it doesn’t have a mic, and it’s not connected to the phone via car play or aa. I like this product.

Unfortunately my Porsche doesn’t have steering wheel controls to test. It doesn’t get as hot as previous versions because it has vents. I did not try those apps only the podcast and a couple music apps.

Hey there, just bumped into your video ! GREAT explanation...seems I have a more recent version of your box, but same concept, functionnality, appeareace...when you say that carplay wireless app (my case autokit) launches, it crashes the wifi connection of the box, either on hotspot to the phone, or to a ssid at home...but, I was able to launch carplay wireless, THEN connect the box bluetooth to the phone, enabling internet access..this approach seems to enable ALL functionnality ...connection speed is variable though...have you tried with a sim card in the box ? so we dont have to wifi to a phone or bluetooth÷internet access ?

Yes that works fine! The only downside is if you want to use CarPlay or android auto you have to stop using hotspot. CP and AA use their own wifi connection to your phone.

Hi, good review. I have a question, i bougth a carlinkkit cpc200 in febuary and it work well in my 2017 silverado. I now own a 2002 f250 with sync 4 and wireless carplay. The dongle doesnt work any more sime like it only work with wired carplay. I used to watch netflix and youtube on it, does other dongle work with wireless carplay? Thanks for your time

Is CarPlay performance depending on vehicle CMU or AI BOX? I own MX-5 ND installed CarPlay wireless dongle but the performance is bit slow. If this device makes faster without upgrading CMU. It would be great if I see same video for Vince’s MX-5.

I would say it’s dependent on either the cars processor or the connection speed of the USB. Def not the box as it is smooth operating on the Porsche. I wanted to try it on his car but he’s been very just. I’m sure I’ll get a chance soon though! All other boxes and dongles have crashed his CMU.

It works while driving. Not sure how your car’s system works with syncing to rear screens but if you have HDMI plug for them in the back you can connect it there

I was able to get the torque app to work on the newer model. See my latest two adapter videos. Yes you could mirror it in. That’s probably the better way

Awesome review. I have been quite tossed up with my decision whether to just stick with wireless dongle or android chip inclusive dongle as it ultimately allows KZbin Netflix Hulu functionality. This review provided much better in-depth review. Quick question if you know. With ordinary wireless or wired adaptor dongles,, Apple Music or Spotify playlist is what’s on your connected phone. If I use this dongle, does anyone know if my kids in the back or guest passenger also connect iPhone via bt to play their playlist while I use my iPhone tethering for Google map with this CarPlay dongle? My teen kids hate my 90s tunes playlist while I use google map Nav wire connected to CarPlay currently as I hate my factory installed outdated nav system.

Many dongles can only handle one BT connection at a time. This one included as far as I know. So that means only one phone at a time. Does that answer your question?

For some reason none of these mmb review videos talk about how to use your phone for making and receiving calls alongside the mmb. Like do you BT pair your phone with the car or with the mmb or what? What happens if a call comes in while I am watching netflix?

I just tested it for you. When using the android interface of the MMB my car knew I was also connected to a “CarPlay device”. So it let the MMB handle the call. It actually completely disconnected Bluetooth from my car. When I actually operate the CarPlay side of the MMB device - calls are handled through CarPlay like normal CarPlay connection. After disconnecting the MMB (by pulling the USB out) the car automatically grabbed my phones BT again

I wonder if this will work with a portable CarPlay unit. I have a portable 8.8” touch screen that I made to look stock as much as possible. It’s actually pretty good, surprisingly. I really want to be able to watch videos of all kind. Mine can’t. But it has a usb a port on the side. I can mirror my phone with what I have but the audio is absolutely terrible. And I have it connected via aux (for mirror only) the rest of the standard wireless CarPlay is through Bluetooth. It won’t let me use the Bluetooth for mirroring for some reason.

No. Only way it can get to a screen without CarPlay or AA is HDMI cable and then it just functions as an android box.

I haven’t tested on every model and I don’t sell these. With that said, it’s supposed to work on any car with a wired apple CarPlay connection. If you don’t have Apple CarPlay already you can’t use this box.

Don’t understand your question. The mirror function requires you to control the app on your phone. The dongle let’s you run the app on the screen with full control. If you are just looking to watch videos, there are cheaper dongles to do that however no car can mirror from the factory

I have one of those and its glitchy AF, sound is worse then plug in, after about 10min of plying music it starts to have annoying static, startup is hit and miss as well, not worth the money honestly, i would return it, but it came from china

That’s not the lag I was talking about, but I was worried about was how other old units had audio lag. That screen lag was more about is how it’s set to sense your fingers. That programming can be improved I think.

Have to manually turn on wifi every time (this is the worst thing) Have to manually connect BT most of the time No way to customize home screen, defaults to carplay instead of android auto No documentation No instructions on whether to BT pair phone with car or with device Even with BT paired with device, android auto does not work most of the time The setting to get GPS from the car does not work Incoming phone calls play static instead of ringtones No way to answer calls from steering wheel Touching the screen while using google maps takes 5-10 seconds to register the touch Casting doesn't work without an external network

these type of products are asking for trouble. Passengers should be the ONLY one to use this to watch Netflix, HBO, Disney, etc. In which case, you might as well just use a iPad with a phone hotspot. Especially at this steep price
