This video made me so emotional. I was thinking about how my book collection has shaped me as a person over time and how each book is special. I still miss one of my books that I lost many years ago. I can't find it anywhere to buy. It's harder to find it because I read it in Romanian, my native language. It was the first book by a Japanese author that I read. The first book that paved the way for so many other books by Japanese authors in my literary journey. For reference, the book is called I Haven't Dreamed of Flying for a While by Taichi Yamada. Maybe one day it will come back to me. Yes, book collections are intimate and important. Thank you for sharing your bookshelf with us. 🫶🏻

Wow what a beautiful story! Books are so special. They really do shape us. And we read books in different seasons of life. So each book has life memories tied to them. I lost my first copy of Name of the Wind that I was gifted 4 years ago. It’s my favorite book of all time. 😞 there is always something magical about keeping the original copy. The one with the wrinkles and tears. There is always a story behind it. Piano always makes me emotional so I thought it was fitting for this video.

@@Thomas.R.Howell Good so far! Lots of characters, but I'm used to that via Song of Ice and Fire. I like the foreshadowing of the ravens here and there, which already makes it a lot more "literary" than say, Way of Kings. @ I might, when done, be willing to debate that statement. 😀 Yes, every book is different. But once you've gotten hundreds of books under your belt, you'll start to become aware of all the literary devices your better authors tend to use, how to spot them, and how they're used as a tool to colorfully bring to life what the author has to say about the world and our place in it.
@Thomas.R.Howell
@Thomas.R.Howell 22 сағат бұрын
@@glauer42 I totally get that and I am sure my other literary friend would see it that way too. My approach has always been to separate myself from the book and even the author. Sure there are moments of appreciation of the author throughout reading their book. But I like to lose myself in the story. Fully immerse myself. It's very much like watching a film. And as a filmmaker for over 20 years, I recognize all of these tools and devices and techniques used in the storytelling and making of a film yet I ignore all that. I LOVE to immerse myself at least the first time through. It's like those murder mystery films. I have friends who all they do when watching it, is try to sold the mystery before the end. Sure that's fun. But for me, I like to immerse myself completely. Get lost in it all. It allows me to have genuine surprise at moments I didn't see coming. And I am not disagreeing with you. I am sure on rereads I will approach the book and story in a different light and recognize those literary devices the author uses! Gosh love our conversations! You've inspired me a lot in my approach to reading. Thank you!

Seeing some Stephen King on there and it sprang to mind as one you might like.
