So pretty! The house I grew up in, we had a king apple tree, Bartlett pears, greengage plums, cherry tree. My Dad excelled at growing things. Every year he would prune each tree and we’d have loads of fruit. Neighbors loved my parents. The king apples were huge! 1 apple was like a meal! In early fall, we’d be picking up fallen fruit before they could rot. Mom and Dad would get loads of apple boxes from the grocery stores, line them up in the basement and we’d have so much fruit in the basement. Mom would spend days washing, peeling and slicing apples up and place the slices in a bowl of ascorbic acid to keep them from going brown. Many got placed in freezer bags, Mom would use a straw to suck out the air and use twist ties to close them. Others would be put in freshly made pies and wrapped in butcher’s paper and put in freezer. We had a 22 cubic foot deep freeze. A side of beef and other meats, loads of baked goodies. Whenever we wanted a pie, Mom would bring it up and place in fridge overnight and bake it the next day. Yum 😊❤️🇨🇦

Every day is a school day. Thank you for sharing the pruning facts as well as your lovely card. We call that variety corella pears in Australia and l use them (imbedded whole, peeled and cooked) in a vanilla, chocolate and almond cake. 🍐 Have a beautiful day Tina, Barbara 🐨🇦🇺🦘
