However, besides our historical connection with South Africa, we also have many African cultural similarities with South Africans, such as Shisa Nyama, which we call Kapana. Glad to have Sbu back. As a South African living in NY..what Nota is saying about South Africans not supporting and coming to shows is a total lie and quite different from the reality on the ground. The pub he is talking about is 90% white-irish south africans who would never even come to an amapiano show in SA to begin with! The black South Africans in NY are supportive and do attend so many shows across the board for of SA artists! The very same show that Zandy threw in Brooklyn with Oskido was 90% South africans. And also we as South Africans are not a big diaspora like east and west africans! So in a crowd of 100.. about 20 will be south africans by virtue of us not being the majority! Notas Postulation of SAFFAS not being supportive is a skewed narrative that is not reality but for him to look like he is solving a problem that is not there! Why not talk about all the other events that he has been too were South Africans take over spaces so much that they will even sing the national anthem with pride irregardless of whether there are 5 or 20 of them! I appreciate how Nota addresses the matter of lobbying in relation to Zimbabwean sanctions. Being a Zimbabwean, I am pleased that he makes an effort to discuss this issue. However, the situation in Zimbabwe is distinct, as the sanctions target specific individuals, and lobbying tends to benefit the corrupt. Hence, they remain justified until there is a demonstrable absence of corruption and a true deserving of better conditions. For example, if Mnangagwa were not under sanctions, it is likely that he would be allocating significant funds in the US. But due to the sanctions, he is unable to do so. Regarding the matter of Israel, I respectfully disagree. I believe our focus should be on advocating for #FreePalestine.
