Playing it with friends and we dug a hellevator that took a few thousand rope and 2 real days due to to crisp honey lava destroying it all multiple times. Also the crisp honey made it so we could only gain 2 blocks of progress every 30 seconds

They do. I've got so many eater of souls banners that i use them pretty much everywhere. I've killed over 2k of them and zombies on the surface. Honestly, this would be absolutely ridiculous without them. The large eater of souls can kill you in two to three hits through hell stone armor. They also seem to have less knockback than I recall.
