In this video, I show you how to assign notes to voices and staffs in Logic Pro. Learn how to notate your piano parts using the score editor in such a way where the division between voices is more flexible. I demostrate how to separate and assign notes into separate staffs. This allows voices to cross while still being displayed independently just like you were notating it with pencil and paper.
I figured out this solution because using a split point doesn’t work as an appropriate method for notating piano with the score editor in Logic Pro. Sometimes pianists cross over their own hands and play notes in other voices. For example, they may cross their right hand over their left hand in order to play a low note with their right hand while continuing to play in the mid range of the keyboard with their left hand. Also, your melody may be more dynamic in that it moves to different ranges of the keyboard.
The workaround is separating voices by assigning each voice to a different MIDI channel. There are two different approaches to separating notes into separate staffs in the score editor in Logic. Logic assigns a split point by default and the other approach is to assign separate MIDI channels for each staff. This allows voices to cross while still being displayed independently.
