Thanks for making this content. There is a lot of misleading info here though.. -The rule of thumb to remember is bandwidth and how a far-end user is viewing or hearing your content. -The original audio option is great for musical performance but adding the extra data to a single microphone is often unnoticed. Getting a decent headset or lapel mic it all that is needed for a zoom meeting -The shared content from second camera will give you a higher resolution but it will also force everyone to look at your face full screen given you have the ability to share content in the meeting. Also remember the resolution being sent depends on how the far-end user is viewing you. If they are in Gallary mode zoom is going to compress the video and dido if their bandwidth is low. -Setting your bit rate higher is another option that will most likely go unnoticed. Again zoom will just compress the audio depending on bandwidth and processing on the far-ed user. -Gear does matter a little but not alot. I have the Logitech brio and sure it looks cool but the max resolution for zoom is 720p (and I believe is the highest of the UC platforms correct me if I am wrong). Getting a 1080p camera will be enough even though zoom will just compress it, technology is always growing so who knows when 1080 will be the standard for video conferencing. I would also consider getting a better microphone if you are using something with very poor quality. I consider the iPhone headphones microphone as a base quality that is good enough and is close to you mouth to block enough sound for noise reduction to work well. Obviously getting a nice microphone with an interface is nice but remember the bitrate is only as good as the internet its traveling over.

Hi Awall! Fantastic video. Thanks. But regarding the 'Turn on original sound': It doesn't work as desired depending on few factors like type of mic (phone,laptop,webcam,standalone) used; noise in the background; and what you want the mic to catch. For people who don't have a silent room, turning on the original audio sends all the sound data in the room including sounds like fan noise, pets sounds, other people talking nearby, any construction nearby, and all this is pretty much amplified. So for such room conditions turning original sound OFF will send better and filtered human voice audio. However, if you are playing any sounds like playing guitar, piano, etc which the mic has to pick up acoustically, then it's sometimes better to turn ON original sound to let the mic pick up all the sounds of the room that'll include the instrument's sound also. Summary: in noisy environment turn OFF original sound, to send better human audio. In sound proof room, or to send other audio like that of an acoustic instrument or other player, turn original sound ON. I've been teaching music for years to students worldwide, and based on the requirement of the class, I ask my students to switch it on or off as required for that moment. It works well.

Great video! An important note regarding sharing the "document camera" feature. When you use share, you force ZOOM to send 1080 resolution but at variable frame rates depending on each recipient's bandwidth signal back to ZOOM . From our university testing, video as viewed on the presenter screen is full motion. However, the participants will receive 1080 at variable frame rate. Better image quality @ 1080 but not full 30 frames. The participants very likely will experience this "screen share" with a jittery image (not full motion) much like the old Max Headroom effect.

@whatonearthamito3 жыл бұрын
yeah, ok: 1. "Original Audio" is great...for a studio quality microphone and recording space with no background noises. Most people on zoom have laptops and their bedrooms or even living rooms. This function is really only useful for music creators. But click it "on" if you want everyone to listen to your laptop fan. 2. "Second Camera Video" trick is cool, but 90% of the time I need the "Share Screen" feature to actually, you know, share my screen 3. Higher quality recording (the setting in Windows) will do exactly squat for you (again, unless in a studio). 4. Unchecking "Exclusive" allows more than one piece of software to "use" your microphone at once (sometimes useful, sometimes to be avoided), has little to do with Zoom "controlling" your hardware

Good Video here, just something to point out, while the stream to 2nd camera option is a good idea for a single presenter as you can use OBS to focus on the content to the local system, it's not an ideal situation if you have multiple presenters on the call. Within the zoom online settings (through the zoom portal) there is an option to enable 1080P or 720P, also making changes to windows audio settings, not really a secret zoom menu, more like system default settings.

All of your audio tricks are great and I have used most of them but the second camera feature I have only used when sending a switcher into the system because I'm the person driving all of the content being shown in the meeting/webinar, but, giving this out as a tip just to increase your camera quality is not conducive to panels, QnA or gallery view meeting sessions due to the screen share aspect. You are now hogging the screen share and if anyone else needs to share PowerPoint or a video, it will kick out of your screen share. Also, you will be the only one being shown. I have done very few meetings/webinars where this would be very advantageous. I think your tips for audio are great and really do up the quality beyond belief, the video aspect, to me is only useful in a podcast or single presenter meeting, I would modify your title a bit so that someone that attendance a weekly company meeting as an attendee or a small business get together doesn't use that in the wrong environment. Your video is still great I just was pointing this out for people to understand when the video aspect would be properly used.
@KenMcGrath3 жыл бұрын
Hey David I think you're right about the video and screen share. As an online instructor I'm bouncing from presentation to software demo, pdf slides and need to record the whole thing to be watched by students that couldn't be there. I'd need a second brain...(sort of) to manage the video sources and follow teaching. I may have missed the obvious here and if I did someone please advise. Audio thing I have mostly set anyway but missed a couple of details...thanks for that and will set it all right.

Good tips. However, the "Share Screen" seems like it would only work if you were the presenter and wanted to to show only your cam. Also, it seems to me that if you use this tip, you become the quasi "spotlighted" video so other participants would only see you--not the other participants in focused and/or gallery view. Are these assumptions correct?

Hi there, I would just like to say thanks so much for your very useful 7 tips (Is that all? No wait there's more) you have a fantastic speaking voice, deep very clear, and the presentation is fantastic. I did all you recommended, I think I have gotten it right guess I will find out on my first live concert for the old folks in the Nursing home. Thanks for your help Regards John Lee from Kilmore Victoria Australia.

If you're recording on a MAC in Zoom just make sure you have bright light on your face, quiet space, and you're framing yourself in the lens.
