Notebook Repair: GPU Solder Reflow, Asus A42J Disassembly and repair.

VLog of my Asus A42J blank screen repair using a GPU solder reflow process using hot-air smd station. Most of the video is 2x speed.
Note: Solder reflow process may not a permanent repair solution, A re-ball process or chip replacement may be better but will require a more specialized equipment.

I got the same issues but with other laptop which is acer aspire 4738z, but if i replace the cpu with the integrated graphics card will it work?. Because the cpu is replaceable and upgradeable from intel core i5 480m to other variant like intel core i5 540m

Nice tutorial. I just got a question, why GPU affect the blank monitor ? Is the cause of problem are the cable monitor too ?

Monitor hinge cable can also cause problem too but in this paticular laptop the GPU are likely suffer a thermal cycle which result in a BGA solder pin cracking, Probably the GPU is driving the display or the BIOS won't boot without GPU. The hotair reflow the solder and solve the problem. A more permanent solution would be to remove the chip and replace or re-ball but that require more specialized equipment.

Not sure, but usually the laptop's mainboard is quite finicky about what screen will work with it.
