Hey Google, thanks for the exciting work on NotebookLM! Could you clarify whether the Audio Output Podcast feature can be used in a commercial setting? Specifically, if I input data that I own or have permission to use, and NotebookLM generates an audio podcast, would I be able to post that content on my website or other platforms for commercial use? This is a question many people have, and it would be great to see this addressed in the FAQ for NotebookLM. Thanks!

@@MarketWatcherZAI cannot be copyrighted so yes you can use it in commercial capacity. But that also means you can’t stop someone from using what you generated

I have created a podcast from my book “Beyond the Algorithm” with NotebookLM. I must say the result is quite impressive. The tool seems to be a game changer.

My 8 year old used it to learn about how to know when to use gender for nouns in German and the audio it provided was amazing. I just now put a few links to a nature preserve I was thinking about and made a notebook to plan out our trip - the audio will be how I get the kids excited for it 😊 I also did some research on some medical documents that normally would be way over my head. This technology is amazing. Oh, and I found a pdf of Christopher Columbus personal diary that's hundreds of pages and it's teaching me all about it in a fun way... So much better than a text book for me. Amazing.

It's adding information and changing the narrative of what is contained in the documents. I am a Christian, and I wrote and uploaded a sermon. The sermon specifically pointed to Christ accomplishing certain things in a person's life. The voice-over totally removed the narrative of the text and pointed to the fact that it's not about spirituality but about our own inner drive. The problem is it kept saying that this is what the document was saying. Now, if I had uploaded tons of PDFs that I didn't have the time to read for myself, I would have thought that what NoteBookLM was saying would have been an accurate representation of what was in my uploaded documents.

I love the concept and look forward to having more control of the voices, output and being able to control the bias. The official narrative is hardwired. We need to be able to have some objectivity and ability to “think”…. Or are we stuck in Orwell nightmare forever.

NotebookLM is a comprehensive research assistant that allows users to upload various document types and generate interactive content, including podcasts that summarize the material through AI-hosted discussions. It leverages Google's Gemini model for personalized learning experiences. Illuminate, on the other hand, is focused specifically on generating podcasts from open-access articles, providing a more limited functionality compared to NotebookLM. It aims to create audio discussions but has restrictions on the types of documents it can process.

NotebookLM is pretty amazing! I hope one day we can buy a upgrade plan to get more than 50 sources. Also, I did test the LM, it can even TRANSLATE other language documents/pdfs to english and the podcasts TOO will be translated.

Can you use the Audio Output Podcast file in your youtube / website in a commercial manor? So far we cant find any information if this is allowed. Basically we want to use our data and have this create a podcast out of it, but we dont know if this can be reuploaded, the Audio Output.

I think the only way would be in post production and once it has been generated add it to a tool like Descript/Other tools and remove portions you don't want

So basically exactly same as existing tools like chatgpt just with a functionality to convert it into podcast style audio.
@witnesstothestupid3 ай бұрын
Not really. NotebookLM and ChatGPT are both AI helpers, but they work in different ways. Imagine NotebookLM as your super-organized research assistant. You give it your notes, articles, or even audio recordings, and it becomes an expert on just that information. It's great for summarizing, finding connections between your documents, and even giving you citations so you know exactly where it got its info. Think of it as a private, personalized search engine just for your stuff. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is more like a knowledgeable friend you can chat with about almost anything. It has access to a vast amount of general knowledge but doesn't specialize in your specific documents. It's better for creative tasks, brainstorming, or just general questions. While it can't cite sources like NotebookLM, it's great for bouncing ideas around and having more open-ended conversations. So, if you need help digging into your own research, NotebookLM is your go-to. If you have a broader question or want a creative partner, ChatGPT is the better choice. Also, the sheer amount of documents you can have in any given notebook, , and the token window size is vastly greater notebook LM, then what you can do in GPTs.

I haven’t tried any other languages - within their docs it says “What languages does NotebookLM support? NotebookLM currently supports over 35 languages. You can change your language preference in your Google Account settings.” support.google.com/notebooklm/answer/14278184?hl=en#:~:text=NotebookLM%20currently%20supports%20over%2035,in%20your%20Google%20Account%20settings.
