Angel is one of the main reasons video review was approved in MLB. if it wasn’t for that, those calls would have stood due to his ego.

Replay review had nothing to do with Angel, it merely confirmed that he stunk. Replay review was 100% because of Jim Joyce's blown call. The truly ironic thing is that Jim Joyce was actually a very well respected good umpire. However, that blown call was at literally the worst possible time...the third out in the 9th inning of a perfect game. Edit: I should add, I actually miss the days before review. You would get some awesome arguments/ejections because of it.

@@brianeleightonyep. And tbh I am actually for retroactively giving Galarraga the “official” perfect game, bc it happened literally on what should have been the game ending play. Like that blown call has no “what ifs” to consider, other than the fact that the correct call would have confirmed that perfect game.

What's worse is for the longest time he was on Joe West's crew, so you had 2 of the most egotistical umpires on the same crew. Sometimes i think that MLB put Angel on West's crew so it wouldn't stand out had bad Joe was.

You can thank the Umpire’s union for Angel Hernandez still having a job. The scariest part, I think Hernandez has recruited more crappy umpires. Officiating in MLB has become a circus. If umps aren’t held accountable for constantly getting calls wrong, then what’s the point of having them there…

Didn't even scratch the surface of how insanely terrible he is at his job. The best equivalent I can think of to express to you two just how bad he is would be a soccer ref who consistently called penalties on goalies for using their hands.

Angel Hernandez actually sued the MLB for racial discrimination in 2017 because he was passed over for crew chief promotions and didn't get to umpire in the playoffs or World Series. The MLB responded by saying that Angel Hernandez "has not demonstrated the leadership ability and situation-management skills in critical situations on a consistent basis to warrant a promotion" (i.e., he's dogshit). Within a year of filing his lawsuit, THREE of his calls were overturned in a playoff game he got to umpire

Great reaction. Worst umpire; no question . . . and . . . "when you see the ball land on the floor." Gets me everytime. I know that's what the Brits call the ground outside, so I'm kind of getting used to it. Same with batsman and "I was sat there" vs "I was sitting there." Nothing wrong with it, just different and interesting.

Hernandez is terrible. He has not umpired this year, supposedly due to a "medical issue", but now very recently he returned but is umpiring in the minor leagues. Who knows if he'll stay down there, retire/get fired or end up in MLB again, but this guy is so frustrating. My team's been burned by him a number of times, especially on ball and strike calls. If he had a medical issue, maybe it's his eyes, cause whatever he sees doesn't seem to correlate to reality.
