Wow, an extended 6:45 cut and no solo from the best rock organist in Canada, Peter Jermyn.

This brought back so many great memories & flashbacks to the Purple Onion in Yorkville. I was a singer in the band WillyJon & the Wildcats that used to play in the Onion when Luke & The Apostles( the reg. house band ) was on the road. They were a group that we all aspired to and learned from. I hear they still gig around Toronto and sound fantastic - a tribute to their longevity & musical talent.

Hey! I remember your band! Never got to see you play, 'cause I was on the road too much, but certainly heard a lot about you guys. Check out their newest stuff on KZbin, they've got Whitey Glan drumming for them now......

Wow - someone out there remembers us ! Thanks for your kind comments - would love to send you our band picture from those days - how do I do this ? We were one of many Willowdale bands in that era. The original members were myself the lead singer ( Marv Vader aka Willyjon ) on keyboards - Michael Dowson ( aka Michael Keys - he's still very active ) - lead guitar Cliff Fielding, drums David Reid, bass - Moe Renshaw - other later members were John Savage- drums & Bill Dalrymple -bass. We played the Onion on a dozen or so weekends through 65 - 66 and only have one picture of our name in the illuminated sign in front of the club on Avenue Road. Wish we had more memorabilia. Glad I found these wonderful memories. Thanks Dave.

The Amen and Kensington Market were two other pretty notable Toronto groups. 'Peter Zeus' by Amen made a bit of a stir on the radio.

I saw Luke and the Apostles in 1968 they were opening for Jimi Hendrix at the CNE grounds.

I didn't see them at that concert; we got there late; they must have been on before I got there; The Paupers did a set and then The Soft Machine; that was at the Coliseum, or Cow Palace, as it used to be called during the CNE. The Doors played at the Coliseum too; Danny McBride gave me one of the promo posters for that gig; it's hanging on the wall in my kitchen. 3'X3'

That's the rumor. Kind of remind me of a group I used to know. Hell, I forget the many names they used. They were from Colorado, not Canada. I also knew Jerry Corbetta and the rest of Sugarloaf, before they had their hit, and saw them a few times after that. Too bad they didn't have more hits, they were good musicians, but talent doesn't seem to mean all that much in the music biz, especially these days.

No such thing, Goatstaog. The tapes weren't in the greatest shape, & they were originally recorded in the Basement of "The Purple Onion" in Yorkville. What matters is the performance! Remember, this was 1966! D.J.Bingham. P.S. You have really good ears. The artifacts from the noise reduction are barely audible.......

@Nothin669 ай бұрын
Hi Peter! - I made the film; it was one of my first forays when I got a couple of Video Apps. I was already into the Audio Restoration & Mastering stuff. Video was next. I went with the sepia tone & old film. Makes sense. This was one of Luke's best performances. I used to love those nights at the 'Onion'. This was at least a year ahead of the 'Brits'. But there was no music infrastructure in T.O. at the time!
