I married my wife Barbara in 1969, mainly because she looked like Joan Baez and I looked like Bob Dylan (and played songs from both of them, and I still do: those two, plus Leonard, have been the sound-track of our lives). The first gift Barbara ever got me was a pair of cuff-links. We saw Joan live at the Cambridge Folk Festival in 1982, and we saw her at the Fare Thee Well concert in London in 2019, and a couple more in between. Every time Joan sings "Diamonds and Rust", she updates the years in line with our marriage, so in 2019 it was "Fifty years ago I bought you some cuff-links". We felt it was just for us.

Some things have improved, some things haven't, some things have got worse. It's amazing the amount of people who have died, been institutionalized, and been imprisoned for the ideals of freedom and liberty and love and others have lived independently and free. Surely the Holy Spirit will set us all free and love us all eventually.😊

Had a lucky life: in 62-63 served in the USAF at Mather AFB, Sacramento Ca and got many open-weekends to go to all the SFO concerts and Purple Onion shows I could. Joan Baez was a high note for all those occasions and still is. That you Joan Baez for filling our lives with your wonderful being and voice.

"Oh I´ll be dammed" , but she is a precious, precious human being, a more than rare soul, a magnificent heart , a present that life gave to us. May we deserve her presence with us for the times to come.We need such a brilliant soul on these black times we are into. God bless and keep Joan Baez forever. Love and gratitude from Brasil. "Oh, serei condenada", mas ela é um ser humano precioso, precioso, uma alma mais do que rara, um coração magnífico, um presente que a vida nos deu. Que possamos merecer sua presença conosco nos tempos que virão. Precisamos dessa alma tão brilhante nos tempos negros em que vivemos. Deus abençõe e guarde Joan Baez para sempre. Amor e gratidão do Brasil.

00:01 Diamonds and Rust Well I'll be damned Here comes your ghost again But that's not unusual It's just that the moon is full And you happened to call And here I sit Hand on the telephone Hearing a voice I'd known A couple of light years ago Heading straight for a fall As I remember your eyes Were bluer than robin's eggs My poetry was lousy you said Where are you calling from? A booth in the midwest Ten years ago I bought you some cufflinks You brought me something We both know what memories can bring They bring diamonds and rust Well you burst on the scene Already a legend The unwashed phenomenon The original vagabond You strayed into my arms And there you stayed Temporarily lost at sea The Madonna was yours for free Yes the girl on the half-shell Could keep you unharmed Now I see you standing With brown leaves falling all around And snow in your hair Now you're smiling out the window Of that crummy hotel Over Washington Square Our breath comes out white clouds Mingles and hangs in the air Speaking strictly for me We both could have died then and there Now you're telling me You're not nostalgic Then give me another word for it You who are so good with words And at keeping things vague 'Cause I need some of that vagueness now It's all come back too clearly Yes I loved you dearly And if you're offering me diamonds and rust I've already paid 04:43 Donna Donna On a wagon, bound for market Theres a calf with a mournful eye High above him, thereвs a swallow Winging swiftly through the sky How the winds are laughing They laugh with all their might Laugh and laugh the whole day through And half the summers night Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on Stop complaining, said the farmer Who told you a calf to be? Why donв you have wings to fly with Like the swallow so proud and free How the winds are laughing They laugh with all their might Laugh and laugh the whole day through And half the summers night Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on Calves are easily bound and slaughtered Never knowing the reason why But whoever treasures freedom Like the swallow has learned to fly How the winds are laughing They laugh with all their might Laugh and laugh the whole day through And half the summers night Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-ona Dona-dona-do-o-na-do-o-o-on 07:58 Forever Young May God's bless and keep you always May your wishes all come true May you always do for others And let others do for you May you build a ladder to the stars And climb on every rung May you stay forever young May you grow up to be righteous May you grow up to be true May you always know the truth And see the lights surrounding you May you always be courageous Stand upright and be strong May you stay forever young Forever young Forever young May you stay forever young May your hands always be busy May your feet always be swift May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift May your heart always be joyful May your song always be sung And may you stay forever young Forever young Forever young May you stay forever young 11:38 Guantanamera Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era Yo soy un hombre sincero De donde crece la palma Yo soy un hombre sincero De donde crece la palma Y antes de morirme quiero Echar mis versos del alma Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era Mi verso es de un verde claro Y de un carmin encenidido Mi verso es de un verde claro Y de un carmin encenidido Mi verso es un ciervo herido Que busca en el monte amparo Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era Con los pobres de la tierra Quiero yo mi suerte echar Con los pobres de la tierra Quiero yo mi suerte echar El arroyo de la sierra Me complace mas que el mar Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era [faded] Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era Guantanamera, guajira Guantanamera Guantaname-e-ra, guajira Guantanam-e-era 15:29 Here's to You Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph Here's to you, Nicola and Bart Rest forever here in our hearts The last and final moment is yours That agony is your triumph 18:39 Only Heaven Knows Seems we've been to heaven darling Ah the sad wind blows But I have lost my way my darling Tell me how it goes While the mist is rising darling Ah the sad wind blows Tell me how we met my darling Tell me all you know Well I am somewhat older darling Ah the sad wind blows And you are so much younger darling That's the way it goes And we looked so good together Ah the sad wind blows Out of all the summer flowers I had picked the rose Take me in your arms my darling While the sad wind blows Tell me that this pain will leave me Tell me how it goes Ah if this pain should ever leave me Only heaven knows

21:14 The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Virgil Caine is my name and I drove on the Danville train 'Til so much cavalry came and tore up the tracks again In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive I took the train to Richmond that fell It was a time I remember, oh, so well The night they drove old Dixie down And all the bells were ringin' The night they drove old Dixie down And all the people were singin' They went, "Na, na, na, na, na, na..." Back with my wife in Tennessee And one day she said to me, "Virgil, quick! Come see! There goes Robert E. Lee." Now I don't mind, I'm chopping wood And I don't care if the money's no good Just take what you need and leave the rest But they should never have taken the very best The night they drove old Dixie down And all the bells were ringin' The night they drove old Dixie down And all the people were singin' They went, "Na, na, na, na, na, na..." Like my father before me, I'm a working man And like my brother before me, I took a rebel stand Oh, he was just eighteen, proud and brave But a yankee laid him in his grave I swear by the blood below my feet You can't raise a Cane back up when he's in defeat The night they drove old Dixie down And all the bells were ringin' The night they drove old Dixie down And all the people were singin' They went, "Na, na, na, na, na, na..." 24:36 The River in the Pines Oh, Mary was a maiden When the birds began to sing. She was sweeter than the blooming rose So early in the spring. Her thoughts were gay and happy And the morning gay and fine, For her lover was a river boy From the river in the pines. Now Charlie, he got married To his Mary in the spring When the trees were budding early And the birds began to sing. But early in the autumn When the fruit is in the wine, I'll return to you, my darling From the river in the pines. It was early in the morning In Wisconsin's dreary clime When he rode the fatal rapids For that last and fatal time. They found his body lying On the rocky shore below Where the silent water ripples And the whispering cedars blow. Now every raft of lumber That comes down the Chippewa, There's a lonely grave that's Visited by drivers on their way They plant wild flowers upon it In the morning fair and fine. 'Tis the grave of two young lovers From the river in the pines 28:10 The House of the Rising Sun There is a house in New Orleans They call the Rising Sun It has been the ruin of many a poor girl And me, oh, God, I'm one If I had listened to what my mother said, I`d have been at home today, But I was young and foolish, oh, God Let a rambler lead me astray Go tell my baby sisters Don't do what I have done To shun that house in New Orleans They call the rising sun And going back to New Orleans My race is almost run I'm going back to spend my life Beneath the rising sun 31:03 Mary Hamilton Word is to the kitchen gone And word is to the hall And word is up to Madam the Queen And that's the worst of all That Mary Hamilton's borne a babe To the highest Stuart of all "Arise, arise, Mary Hamilton Arise and tell to me What thou hast done with thy wee babe I saw and heard weep by thee" "I put him in a tiny boat And cast him out to sea That he might sink or he might swim But he'd never come back to me" "Arise, arise, Mary Hamilton Arise and come with me There is a wedding in Glasgow town This night we'll go and see" She put not on her robes of black Nor her robes of brown But she put on her robes of white To ride into Glasgow town And as she rode into Glasgow town The city for to see The bailiff's wife and the provost's wife Cried alack and alas for thee "Oh you need not weep for me," she cried "You need not weep for me" For had I not slain my own wee babe This death I would not lead Oh, little did my mother think When first she cradled me The lands I was to travel in And the death I was to dee Last night I washed the queen's feet Put the gold in her hair And the only reward I find for this The gallows to be my share "Cast off, cast off my gown," she cried "But let my petticoat be And tie a napkin round my face The gallows, I would not see" Then by them come the king himself Looked up with a pitiful eye "Come down, come down, Mary Hamilton Tonight, you will dine with me" "Oh hold your tongue, my sovereign liege And let your folly be For if you'd a mind to save my life You'd never have shamed me here" Last night there were four Marys Tonight there'll be but three It was Mary Beaton and Mary Seton And Mary Carmichael and me 36:58 Banks of the Ohio I asked my love to take a walk, To take a walk, just a little walk, Down beside where the waters flow, Down by the banks of the Ohio And only say that you'll be mine In no others arms entwine, Down beside where the waters flow, Down by the banks of the Ohio I held a knife against her breast, And into my arms she pressed, She cried, "Oh Willie, don't murder me I'm not prepared for eternity." And only say that you'll be mine In no others' arms entwine Down beside where the waters flow Down by the banks of Ohio I started home 'tween twelve and one I cried, "My God, what have I done? I've killed the only woman I loved, Because she would not be my bride," And only say that you'll be mine In no others' arms entwine Down beside where the waters flow Down by the banks of Ohio 39:38 Little Moses Away by the waters so blue The ladies were winding their way While Pharaoh's little daughter went down to the water To bathe in the cool of the day Before it was dark she opened the ark And found the sweet babe that was there And away by the waters so blue The infant was lonely and sad She took him in pity and thought him so pretty And it made little Moses so glad She called him her own, her beautiful son And she sent for a nurse who was near And away by the waters so blue They carried that beautiful child To his tender mother, to his sister and brothers Little Moses looked happy and smiled His mother so good did all that she could To raise him and teach him with care And away by the sea that was red Little Moses the servant of God While in him confided, the sea was divided As upwards he lifted his rod And the Jews safely crossed while Pharaoh's host Was drowned in the waters and lost And away on a mountain so high The last that he ever did see With Israel victorious, his hopes were most glorious That soon all the Jordan be free When his spirit did cease, he departed in peace And rested in the Heavens above

Sebagai pewaris musik dunia saya mengenal Joan Baez sekitar THN 1970 akhir/1980 an lewat lagu: Dona-dona.
