He's tied up, He's held down and the dogs (death) have been let loose, his fait seems inevitable, it feels 'impossible' to get out of this and into a better place. The ocean (love) and the rock (toxicity) although was the thing drowning him and holding him down as a combination, was also the thing that stopped him being killed by the dogs, however the ocean (love) was also drowning him too, until he looked within himself and found the key to break the chain holding him down. He's now just free in the sea (love) without the rock (toxicity) holding him down. He's free and was saved by love. The ocean, though scary, 'made it possible' . But that's just my interpretation.

This is everything! I was breathless when Conor was underwater, that beautiful visual really made the song more intense. I could feel it. You guys really know how to add emotion on top of emotion. I like to look at this song as figuring out their emotions far too late, and that allowing themselves to give in- or "drown"- is the only way to save themselves from their chains (referring to the scene where they let all their breath out to get the key to the cuffs). in the end they survive, and the scene of them walking across the vast wasteland from an eagles view expresses how alone they truly were (the beginning was focused on their singing and never showed their true surroundings), but they've accepted it and continued walking regardless. Allowing themsevles to finally drown in their emotions to finally let themself let go of the chains they put on themselves. It seemed "impossible" because of the chains they put on themself, but letting go of their own internal handcuffs let them free in the end. This song has always struck me as a somber and lonely song, and the music video for it only confirmed what I felt about this song. Truly a masterpiece.

Beautiful, I loved the narrative since the begining, as I was watching the video, I was thinking about my interpretation of it, to being chained by your own battles and finding the answers inside of yourself (the key coming form his mouth), the fear represented by those rabid dogs, closing his eyes to the hit and surrender to the fear of being under water (your thoughts, your struggle), honestly the hardest part of facing your battles.
